Does look to be gym. What part of the world? Did you observe orange spore deposits, typically gyms will produce alot of spores and you will get orange fingers from touching them.

Thank you with the rain it makes them seem off. been raining for days here in Ny. I seem to find theses on dead maple wood. I am  wondering if the active ones come from maple wood and the inactive ones are from pine ? Anyway is it a good idea to dice them put them in lemon water to boil for a min. then simmer for 20 -25 min for tea? or is it better to dry them ?  thanks

Yeah if it's growing near hardwood then it's likely G. subspectabilis which is known to be active. Making a tea is probably the best method, that's what I do with gymns
