Habitat: Found this flaky pink mushroom in a big field in Upstate NY. looked beautiful but struck me as likely poisonous.
It had no gills on the inside but seemed to have scales on the outside.
Stem was white and had a prominent veil near the bottom.
Cap was white, pink, black Near the bottom in a (quite long) concave shape.
Was the only one around.
Anyone know what it could be? Thanks!

yup they're edible best when prepared soon after being picked. Also avoid alcohol after consumption

Okay, will do. If it’s raining right now should I go pick it quick before it gets wet or still wait till we’re ready to cook it? And is there any way to preserve it for a few days once harvested?

wont be good for that long. they can be stored when dried, though they often will begin to break down before fully dried

So an airtight container would be the best way to store it for a day or two then?

Went and retrieved it just now. 👌 Got a little wet in the rain but still looks alright. The ink is starting to run a little on the bottom already but I’m gonna try to get it cooked ASAP. Thanks for the info!

I think it's only Coprinopsis atramentaria that contains coprine, if I'm not entirely mistaken. At least I've never seen any reference to this being a trait in C. comatus.
However if you have contradicting information, please post, I'm all ears.
