Thread bumping

I’m new to how everything works and apologize for the thread bump. There is so much more to this site than I ever realized.
When I was using the search engine to search something I was curious about, I came across a topic being discussed long ago and wanted to get some feedback on it.
Instead of bumping the thread, should I have started a new post about it? I thought that it would be better to bump a thread rather than start a new post on a topic that was already discussed.

Welcome to the site! You have nothing to apologize for. People get so ridiculous about that, I swear some of our members fancy themselves the bump police. I think that bumping an old thread shows that you've taken the time to search on your own and you're trying to keep relevant discussion consolidated in one topic. Nothing wrong with it at all. In fact I think it's polite. If we didn't want people bumping old threads, we'd make it impossible.
The only thing is that when you bump an old thread, most or all of the original participants may be long gone. So if you directly address someone when they haven't even been on the site in 10 years, you may look a little confused. But who cares. Anyway it's easily avoided by just acknowledging that you know it's an old thread.
Enjoy the Shroomery and next time someone complains about you bumping a thread tell them the dude who made the site says you're using it correctly.

i hope its ok i bump this old thread.
here is my stance on the issue. in the mushroom cultivation forums older threads are usually filled with worthless information that lacks relevance. seeing them bumped does nothing more than recycle bad information imo.
it gets annoying

Old information is bad? Are there expiration dates on threads? I like to discuss old topics after time has gone by and people have a better understanding of things.
Some people get all pissed when a thread is only days old...lol.
Glad I "use the site correctly" from time to time.

I don't have a problem with bumping old threads as long as there is something meaningful to add to the conversation. Often old threads are woken from the dead with a 'thanks' reply or some emoji that doesn't contribute to the content of the thread then 5 posts into the responses someone realizes it's an 8 year old thread and most of the OPs have been gone for years

10yr old threads being bumped to ask questions about outdated mushroom cultivation practices is super annoying.
From the educators standpoint it becomes a clusterfuck so its easier to just lock the thread
I'm only speaking from mushcult I got no clue why someone would necro a pub thread

Mushboy, You sound as if you have been here a long time and I could see how the same old could get boring. I’m still learning and everything has that new charm to me. I can accept that something won’t work if I can understand why. There are some old threads that I have seen that look really interesting and it’s a shame that they are collecting dust. Happy New Years
