Kinda old Ganoderma Tsugae?

Found this on a hike in southwestern Quebec. Foolishly I didn’t identify the stump it was growing from, but I believe it was some kind of pine, as that was what most of the trees in the area were.

Managed to find some white flesh inside that I’ve put on some MEA plates. So whatever it is, I’ll hopefully have more of it.

Hemlock varnish shelf?

Yes.  Growing on Tsuga canadensis, right?

Went back through my photos, can't confirm it was growing on a hemlock, but it was probably growing on a hemlock. I'll get better at my tree identification.

Tried to take some clones from it but I think it was past its best before date anyway.

Even the late-fruiting ones I saw this summer were gone by a long while ago. They seem to universally develop mold on the pore surface and the maggots also love them. You want to harvest them when they max out in size or earlier, although I'm not sure about how harvest time affects the medicinal properties.

Keep the spot in mind; there will likely be more next year, if not from the same exact spot, then from the surrounding area.
