I wild harvasted a shitload of passionflower this year.

Soo, Passionflower is a mild MAOI, used by the Native Americans for mental health issues like anxiety, hysteria, ADD, insomnia, pain and other ailments. My cousin just bought a large peice of property down south and sent me a picture of what she saw as a pretty flower... Immediately I could see it was a passion flower, so back in September I took a trip down there and wild harvested some. I got probably about 10-12 ounces of just the leaf, probably about the same in stem that I turned into a powder for capsules, about an ounce to 2 of flowers(which are far more potent and psychoactive than the herb material... and, about 4 fruit which I've dried and plan on replanting...

I wild harvested a lot of stuff this year, but I am most happy about this, for sure!

Below is a photo of my passion flower stash. Vine(on left) is now powder, leaf (right) and flower (on paper plate)

Sorry, I messed up my OP, I meant an ounce or two of flowers. The flowers are incredible, I am so glad I went for those over the fruit, which were no longer ripe.

So I grow lots of maypops around my house, how are you harvesting / preserving the flowers and leaves? The flowers smell like burnt rubber to me.

Carpenter bees actually get drunk off of the nectar and the wife and I go around petting them as they pollinate the flowers.

Looks like a good haul, STP.
We grow two species of passiflora, P. incarnata for medicine and P. edulis for fruits.
They are certainly beautiful flowers.

That's interesting. I got a method of drying which minimizes the risk of loosing the alkaloids (better than the oven anyway) but drys them quickly so they don't go bad. Basically, a metal case with a heater blowing into it and herbs on shelves inside of it. I got it from the book "Medicinal herbs of the Appalachians."

It seems to work because I also grow Lemon Balm which has a tendency to turn black when you dry it at room temperature, but the herbs maintain their color and potency with this other technique. Then, they tell you to store it in a mason jar in a cool, dark place..

They really are! And so much fun to work with too!! (But, smelly!)  Although where I found them, downstate TN, there were some white spiders who had found habitat on them... I may have forcibly relocated some of them, but none were harmed lol.

On the subject, all this passionflower dried with the aforementioned method rapidly. Probably overnight.
