Hi,
I'm still new to the mushroom thing and I'm trying to find my first Liberty Cap, I'm also wondering if one of these is Psilocybe caerulipes as it looks similar to photos that I have seen? I'm also interested in learning of the edible mushrooms in general. We had well below freezing temperatures last night (-7 degrees Celsius) and possible flurries tonight so I rushed out and picked these today before they all disappear for the season. I was wondering if anyone could help me identify any of these? Of any edible ones, I would like to plant the spores near my house so that I have an edible mushroom area, but I would also like to know the names of whatever I encounter. Any help in identifying any of these is greatly appreciated. I named the pictures so for example A1,A2,A3 are one kind and B1,B2,B3 are another kind etc... I just picked these so I haven't had a chance to do spore prints yet. Thanks in advance.
Habitat: All of these were found withing a 30 foot radius of one another. They were found in a very old horse pasture that is almost 3/4 grown over with around 20 year old forest. The last quarter of the pasture is still grass.
Spores: I just found these today and will set them up for spore prints asap.

Thank you very much! It is getting cold here at night and I worry that I will be out of time to find some. I went out today and found some new ones. I just posted these for an id request also, third tries the charm right? lol. Hopefully the new ones will turn out good. Thanks.

Hi Mushy, the cold weather came early this season, but I'm hoping for an increase in temps in a week or so. The liberty caps should continue for a little while, if you can find any (it's not the best season, on the mainland anyway). We have been watching P. caerulipes for the past few years here. It is very uncommon, easily confused with Hypholoma capnoides (to the untrained eye), and it's season seems to be just about over. There are about 3-4 fruitbodies growing in the area I am familiar with, but this seems to be the tail-end of the season for them. Anyway, all that is to say...maybe focus on libs for the rest of this season and I would look close to (but not directly on) the coast since the climate is a bit more moderate than inland. Hope this helps. R_D
