Built a "circuit" board with my son 2

It was my son's project for school. Our original idea was dope, but I fucked it up.
We had one of those halloween light switch covers that lights up and screams whenever you turn on the light.
It was a normally open switch that activates when the 2 pieces of metal touch. I gutted the whole thing and removed the lights, mini speaker, and the switch. I was going to rig it up using tinfoil so when he would make contact everything would light up and scream.
But.... My stupid ass accidentally broke off on of the wires. The solder was garbage.
It was still a fun little project...

Aluminum foil*. Tin contains lead.
Nice work and good job being a dad!
The trick to dealing with really thin wire is having a nice soldering iron. The off brand temp adjustable units on Amazon for like $30 or $40 are more than enough iron for the average person. They should last you forever basically, and they blow those junk Weller wood burner irons out of the water. You can also buy pcb for just a few bucks and etch it if you really want a circuit board experience. You showed conductivity very clearly though and I’m sure your boy learned a lot.

Thanks man, and yeah, he did. He wants to see what else we can rig.
I was also looking at a soldering kit the other day. I forget which one it was exactly, but it was around that same price.

Very cool. Always fun to see kids get into stuff.
If it's something you guys have fun doing together, you might like going a step further and trying out something like a Raspberry Pi or an Arduino. Even something as simple as making an LED blink can be a lot of fun.

What do you mean tin contains lead? Those are both elements.
OP if you draw on paper with pencil and make a couple nice thick lines of graphite you can use them as wires and make a little circuit on paper. That would probably be fun for your kid if you need to do another project like that.

Well modern "tin foil" doesn't contain any tin at all. It's aluminum, and that's really what i was getting at.
So, I should have said "tin foil" instead of just "tin".
In reality, some of the tin foils sold were actually closer to low grade Pewter. Pewter, up until like 1950 was lead containing. Of course the use of tin foil ended in 100 years ago as aluminum foil is a cheaper and better product.

Really cool, Mr. Egg!!
Reminds me of when I was little and my dad helped put together one of those make it yourself radio kits for kids. I remember us actually getting a signal!

ik that we make foil out of aluminium now.
The reason we dont use tin is not because Tin foil had lead. we dont even use pure tin anymore. Aluminium has superior properties.
You like to let me know when I dont capitalize words at the beggining of sentences so I figured you must be the kind of guy who likes being corrected when you are wrong. Just helping out.

Tinfoil is more of a general term now rather than the type of metal used in production. Kinda like how tissues are generally called kleenex regardless of brand.

Tin gets used for all sorts of stuff. We just don’t line steel cans with it, or use it as foil for our food. And some types of tin foil were absolutely alloys.
As far as capitalization goes, I have no idea what you are talking about. It seems you have a crush on me lately, which is cute. I’ll think about you on the toilet later.

“Tin foil” is a misnomer. A very common one.

Superior qualities for food foil.
not for everything. Tin gives a tin taste, etc.
You dont remember that you can't read stuff unless its capitalized? oh idk then maybe you were just saying that to be a smart alek. not sure what that was all about.
If it was "absolutely an alloy" then tinfoil would have been a misnomer by your own logic. so if you were refering to foil made of an alloy, then by your own logic you were incorrect to call it tin foil. regardless you thought tin was a lead containing alloy, now you know its not.
