Very first grow setup

So I've lurked here a lot and have taken quite a bit of info from every tek. After a few of my own little tweaks I finally have my setup running smoothly. Had a few issues with 2 B+ WBS jars refusing to take hold at all so I scrapped em and started anew. I have my monos dialed in so far rather nicely as everything is colonizing quickly. These tubes are only after 5 days of being mixed. Substrate is an hpoo mix. I have everything automated which makes life so very very much easier. I am currently working on a poo pasteurizer from Akiras wagner steamer tek but will be using a cooler and copper tubing for the steam rather than PVC. I find pasturizing the biggest pain in the ass thus far so I really liked his idea of the tub steamer. I will post some pics of that process later on once I get more work done on it. For now just thought I'd share my excitement

As soon as I saw some Martha's I knew that was the only way I was gonna go. Price wise its descent, can produce a nice big yeild yet whole setup is pretty small and it keeps in heat and humidity absolutely beautifully! We will see how this one goes and if all well I may set up another. Love this tek so much

Looks sick! Have you thought of using coir for your substrate, if you hate the pasteurizing part?

Yeah I actually did start to think about trying it but I have a giant ass tub all pre mixed with hpoo to use up first. Eventually wanna do up some oysters and such as well so figured may look into some bult pasteurized teks. I will def do some coir I think once I've run through the shit tub lol. Akiras bulk pasturizer tek seemed well put together and seemed super cheap enough to give it a go. So far its lookin like a nice unit. Once my wagner comes in I will def be putting up some of my own tek posts on it.

Look up “willy myco” on YouTube. He has a bulk pasteurize tek using a mini tub, seems legit. I’ve used the “damion elementary tek” in bulk, just double, tripled etc.. the recipe, field capacity was trash, and it amounted to more than what I needed so I had to trash the rest, but it technically worked lol

What are you doing for FAE in this Martha?
Also, why do you have lids on your tubs inside the greenhouse?

I have a small fan running at the bottom and the bottom of the martha is raised slightly to allow air inside and drainage from the condensation. From a lot of the teks of read with monos you need to have the tops covered to allow for colonization. The lids are not snapped shut and are just sitting lightly on top.

Thank you so very much!!! I have grown weed in greenhouses and tent setups for years so I wanted to give this a go. I have always loved everything about mushrooms and wanted to switch crops for change. Dont get me wrong weed is great and all but I suffer from depression and found mushrooms to help tremendously with everything in life. Plus I dont care what anyone says.. they taste good lolQuote:

I mean I am new at this and am just kinda tubthumpin over here. I am assuming that lids are really not necessary in Martha's at all then.

I'm a long way from being an expert, but my understanding is that a tub is effectively a small green house. Doing everything the green house does at a smaller scale. Ie retaining humidity, heat, and allowing some sort of free air exchange. As tubs are smaller spaces they allow you to control these variable more easily (?). A green house, as it's on a larger scale allows for more growing area (?), however, makes controlling humidity, temp, and free air exchange a little trickier.
Having a tub in a green house is basically having a green house in a green house. The main down side I can see would be a potential decrease in free air exchange as you've spereated your grow twice from the fresh air. But cubes are pretty forgiving. If it's working I wouldn't mess with it. But in the future you could look at dialling in either the monotubs or the martha.

Monotubs provide everything you need without necessarily maximizing anything but are super easy, set it and forget it type of grows.
The whole point of a greenhouse is to be able to fine tune your humidity, temperature, and air exchange at the expense of a higher cost and more work.
One of the largest benefits of a green house is an absolutely massive amount of fresh air exchange while being able to maintain optimum humidity, and it seems to me that you’re losing that benefit by keeping your grows inside tubs, as well as by keeping your fan inside the chamber.
I’ve been doing greenhouse grows for years and your best bet is to cut that plastic sheet into wide strips, and have your fan outside the chamber blowing fresh air from the outside in periodically. I have a timer that turns a fan on for 15 minutes every two hours and also turns on an additional humidifier set to high at the same time to keep it from drying out. An oscillating fan is even better for this purpose, unless you can find a digital timer that will allow for something like 3-5 minutes on and 2 hours off

Well that makes perfect sense. I guess with all the info I was researching I misunderstood and somehow combined the mono tub with the Martha tek. My brain has been pretty overworked the past while lol. So I'm just gonna leave the tubs in but no lids on and just let everything go. So for monotub tek how do you supply correct heating and such? I'm assuming humidity helps keep itself in a mono as long as it is sealed and misted while excess heat from colonization raises humidity

iirc monotubs are meant to be very low maintenance. Chuck in the sub, if it's properly hydrated that provides the humidity, then the holes provide FAE, which can be dialed in by altering the a moment of polyfill/micropore used. Bod's unmodified monotubs seem to literally just have the lid cracked open a bit. Like a shoebox. But with a little tinkering a monotub shouldn't need (much/any) misting or fanning.
Heat wise the best bet is to heat the room rather than the grow, if you see what I mean. My cubes grew in temps lower than ideal and were fine, just a little slower.
If you open the lids of the monotubs in the martha then keep an eye on the surface conditions. There's a good thread on it here

Thanks so very much guys!!! I love this forum so much information and everyone is so very helpful!! So do most people have their substrate covered with a lid while colonizing in a Martha and then open up for FAE once pinset is in? Problem I'm having is I was getting great moisture with loose lids on. Colonizing nicely. Then I did decide to remove lids thinking I didnt need them as I may get too much moisture buildup. Figured my humidifier would provide enough as I have it set to maintain at 95 -98. Heat is at 75. Now I'm noticing that colonization looks like it has stalled. 2 of my trays seem to keep drying out and have started some side pins. I think I Should have left those lids on. It was hard to find info about wether or not to keep substrate covered in martha or not. Not a lot of answers I could find. I also dont understand why my trays are drying out when it's so humid in there. A lot of condensation building up on the walls. Any ideas thoughts input?
