Basically this.
When the flu season starts, all micro organisms can survive longer out of the body and more readily take hold. This increases the R0 if people dont step up their measures.

My county just shut down for the 3rd time. It's pretty well the death knell for the small businesses that were still open.

Me neither. It’s pretty scary to think what that implies if we don’t know anyone who has gotten sick while there’s been 225,000 deaths. We are no way near herd immunity. Probably only 10% of the population has been infected, so letting this virus get out of control now would be a total disaster

We’re not going to have a significant flu season. All the covid mitigation effort work even better for the flu. The spread of flu viruses has essentially stopped worldwide. The US has a flu test positivity rate of something like .1% , meaning only 1 out of every 1000 tests is positive for the flu. If you have flu symptoms this fall you probably have covid.

They compared the percentage of the population that wears mask to prevalence of covid symptoms in the community and the correlation of the data is about as convincing as you can get. DC has the highest mask compliance and the lowest prevalence of covid symptoms while South Dakota has the essentially the opposite. South Dakota has a very similar population to DC and is currently seeing 10-20 times the number of new cases per day.

The lady that cuts my hair had to close her salon for over a month to look after her daughter, after she came home from the U.K. with corona in March. We have been very lucky here. The authoritarian lock downs worked.

Don't know anyone that has died from it. Everyone waiting in line to vote will surely spread it enough to change that. If the kids all going to school does not take care of it first.

I don't see how standing in line to vote is different from standing in line at the grocery store as long as everyone has masks.

It's pretty hilarious when people use the "I don't know anyone with COVID" thing thinking it somehow validates their point that the virus is overhyped or whatever.
Over the past 4-5 months my state's numbers have been low and I don't know anyone who's had it in that period. We got slammed at the beginning of it though, and I had 5 different family members hospitalized and pretty much everyone I'd talk to at the time had loved ones in the hospital or dead. 2 of my uncles died from it, but were not ruled covid deaths because they died from pneumonia and a heart attack resulting from covid but had been testing negative for a few days.
Things have been so calm here lately it's easy to forget that if we open things back up fully we'd be right back to that carnage. Now that I'm not living with at-risk people anymore my life is pretty much no different than pre-pandemic, apart from avoiding restaurants and live events which has been nice on the bank account. The restaurant option's still there for those who want it, concert venues are allowed at 50% here in places now and there's talks of sports starting to slowly have fans again. As expected though schools being open is causing cases to surge again, so who knows.

Neither of these changes the fact that thousands of people stand in grocery lines every single day.

OK. There are also people who haven’t been to a grocery store in 8 months.

That still doesn't change what I am saying.
Thousands of people daily.. standing in line for whatever it is. Bus stops, grocery lines, malls, gas stations.
This is a once in 4 years event that will most likely not even be that crowded depending on your timing.

You want my 85 year old mom to wait in line to vote when she can just mail in a ballot? Why are all republicans down for voter suppression
In related news, a man was arrested yesterday for waiting in line to vote without a mask.

My company sent me to get tested last Friday. We all came some what close to one employee that had it. I’m negative. I have to go again though.
That said, with this inbound second peak (seemingly as we haven’t managed to clear the first wave) I expect groceries and TP to become a premium again. We bought a bidet and it helps greatly with TP useage, I think I will still stock up on some TP in the mean time.
Trump also sealed the deal on a lack of stimulus as the Senate is closed until after the election. Trump will lose, there won’t be a stimulus until January or February if at all.
In summary, rough seas ahead.

I dont remember saying that i was against mail in ballots? Can you quote where I said that please? I doubt you'll find it.
You can't refute what I am saying and it shows.
Also, I thought masks work?
