Exploring your dark side * 1
    #27003786 - 10/25/20 10:37 PM (3 years, 3 months ago)

Before I saw this clip I thought it was just going to be another dumb YouTube video but I was highly surprised. With covid-19 and all this global stuff going on, it has forced me to take a look at my own dark side both in my psychedelic life and in my sober waking Life as well.

I disagree on many points eg, "How inconvenient it would be (to have a relationship) however attractive"

Take that to it's ultimate and you negate society.

Didn't watch the video
Whatever we avoid, gets stagnant
"dark" is just a judgement

for example:

If your parents fought
you might grow up & avoid expressing anger,
so you do therapy,
learn to express anger.
Then learn to meditate, do yoga, chill out
rarely experience anger.

"dark" is just a judgement,
as long as you couldn't express anger,
it was part of "your dark side"
as it wasn't consistent with the self image you had at that time.
Once the judgement is dropped,
and self acceptance takes its importance away,
then it can perhaps just be dropped.
It is now no longer in some dark back pocket of your psyche getting stagnant.

Just an example of a general principle.

In our little drive this morning, after a little VOTing, My wife complained that I was honking and cursing other drivers a bit too much for indecision and basic retarded vehicle positioning in intersections and then just stopping.

she declared "what good is that meditation if you get angry at these drivers who you don't even know"
I clarified that "my anger is very refined after meditation, and I am very much in synch with all these dodo's".

that's my dark side. internal combustion and rubber. I hate driving.

To begin with he states that "the contemplation of death and acceptance of death (going to sleep and never waking up) is very highly generative of creative life"

I think that's a reflection of thinking about going to jail for committing a crime, it can be generative of abiding by the law, however the contemplation of death will more likely result in depression, imo, and the opposite of "creative life".

Death is a fact
avoiding the reality of a fact, dumbs one down.

Buddhists traditionally did death contemplation, sometimes in cemeteries.
.  Supposedly it results in some detachment from much of the vanity many have in regards to the body, but not in depression.

a little web searching will tell all you want know about it, I'm sure.

But I'm sure lots of great creative artists, writers, etc did not do death contemplations. Then again lots of art does deal with the darker or grim aspects of life.

Yes, I get your drift. There are some darker things about myself that I wouldn't tell anyone about, not even my best friend, but I wouldn't consider them bad at all, only socially unacceptable or socially weird. The thing is to accept your darkness so you can see the light out of it so to say.

Alan Watts is great. I would recommend any of his books.

Carl Jung explores the "shadow" (dark side) of humanity very very deeply. The shadow of a person is not necessarily bad or evil, it is merely the content of the consciousness that gets pushed away by the ego because it is deemed unacceptable and inappropriate
for society. It is the lack of integration of the shadow that causes problems, not the shadow itself.

edit: Looks like we're on the same page

If you're interested in this topic, I think you'd really dig Carl Jung. He worked with Freud but branched out into his own psychological theory that explains our psyche very well.

So we're all dummies of varying degrees since no one has all the facts.

In this clip Watts says that in order to have a play we have to introduce an element of trouble since there is no 'substance' without the 'shadow'...

He says that the shadow is the 'manure' or compost that feeds our growth.

Too often, I think, we find the 'manure' in the Director's chair rather than in the supporting role, for instance a local running for office states that he supports Christian values and is "Pro gun" which in my opinion goes against the Christian grain of "If you try to save your life you will lose it but if you lose it for my sake you will live".

my favorite art tool is a black crayon.
but I really like all the colors.

it's not the color, it's how that color is incorporated into the totality of the thing.

...

Consider the opposite, facing reality, gives one more power, awareness, & liveliness.

Its all really not very deep.

Those who are well off financially, and have family, and face death are those who write a will & buy life insurance policies, and get regular medical checkups. Soldiers & Doctors also better learn to deal with it... etc.

What is stupid,is pretending to deal with it by,  buying fancy caskets and expensive grave stones, etc.

Likewise acknowledging ones less attractive impulses, is also all really not very deep, its just the political correctness of polite society and religion, (mainly Christianity) that make ideals out of purity, that cause some to exaggerate the power of guilt and repression in their lives, IMO.

I can predict with near certainty which lights will turn red on me. I know which ones. Currently I'm up $2.4 trillion in fake bets. Feels good to just bet on things happening...once you can predict life you can try curveballing it but it still fucks me over. But that's what I do when I drive...but I usually just try and zone out enough whilst still focusing on driving so I don't care. I practice having a poker face whilst driving. If I even so much as make an angry face, I lose the game. Then when other people get pissed off at me for seemingly no reason I just keep my cool, if they blow their stack that's on them.

Seemingly I can get away with doing this, only thing that helps me go out and drive even with PTSD from road rage. So I try not to get people angry, or angry myself. Idk, I just think of driving as "everything's going to go wrong probably", let's just assume, and if something actually goes right, then it's a step away from my normal prediction.

I'll still call out red lights and win every time. Just try to make a game out of it and make it so you win, even if the traffic and other drivers suck.

black crayon and drawing with black crayon is hugely beneficial

neocolor ii 10 come cheap

10 crayons I mean

every 3 seconds there's a vector in your life

I don't think it gives a result every 3 seconds but every minute

a tangible result like getting things done
