PNW , boletes ID request

These were found in the PNW.  Mixed growth trees conifer and hardwood.  There were a lot of aminitas close by also.

Edit: it was majority hardwood with some conifer and here is a cross section

Seems to be some type of Leccinum Sp.

Thanks!  I looked it up and it does sound right for Lessinum insign.  Curious if there are other opinions.

Looks like maybe some blue-green at the base and little to no bruising on the flesh. Maybe the pic is of poor quality, but the lack of bruising would point to Leccinum scabrum. Apparently there are other very similar species that can only be distinguished microscopically, but I don't know of any poisonous Leccinums.

I am not a trusted identifier, but I can tell you that the color the flesh bruises on Leccinum is useful in species id. It's also fun to watch!

Knowing your trees is also helpful; knowing whether or not there were aspens (Populus sp) in that area could also help with identification.

I have also read an account online of someone getting gastric upset because of not cooking Leccinums long enough; the person still consumes these mushrooms, but dries all specimens and doesn't have any more issues.

Thank you so much!  I am not from the PNW and don’t know all the trees yet but there were poplar around.  When I said hardwood I was referring to poplar mainly but there were a couple other species of hardwoods there.
