Reishi in Iowa (Conundrum)
    #27002671 - 10/25/20 12:33 PM (3 years, 3 months ago)

So last year I had extra spawn from a reishi grow and decided to make a slurry and spread it around to see if any would take in the wild and survive our winter. We had a fairly mild winter last year in comparison to the average I think. I went back early spring before the vegetation took hold and found these.

(fixed pic)

They tested KOH positive for Ganoderic Acid, via turning jet black. AFAIK Ganoderma Lucidum does not grow in Iowa, (which is what the slurry I spread was) so I'm wondering if anyone with a trained eye might be able to tell me if it is Ganoderma Lucidum or if it is a different wild strain. I am also wondering if the KOH test could react with other substances in the same way it does with Ganoderic Acid?

More info: I cloned the specimen in the PIC and put it to grains, however the mycelial growth was not the same as the original G. Lucidum that I have been cultivating over the years. The mycelium grows slower and more wispy, (Unlike the shredding rhizo's of the G. Lucidum) and I'm not sure if I can attribute that to surviving the winter or not?

I don't need a positive ID since I'm growing them out anyways, just looking for idea's or opinions on what they might be so that I can follow-up on it. Thanks!

Looks like ganoderma sessile. Which would make sense given your description of its growth on agar.
