Latest addition to the cactus family 1

So from what I have gathered online these look like PC or pachanot, correct? What I was planning to do was cut all three in half. That would yield two tops. I assume if I root and plant the tops that they will continue to grow as normal correct? I know the middle cut sections will produce pups but I didn’t know if the tops do the same as well or just continue to grow in size as is? Thanks guys. They are getting pretty dried out now so I guess I just need to cut and get them dried out more then prepare for propagation. Any reason to keep them whole instead of cutting in half?

100% hardcore PC clone. They look healthy though and will be a good start for growing grafting sock for other varieties. Graft a seedling to a PC pup and it will probably produce a foot in a year.
It's still active, so don't write it off.

So cut it in half like I was talking about? Let the tops continue to grow as is and let the others pup. I do have some LW seeds and buttons on the way so I will be happy to have some to graft to and experiment with.

yeah cut them in half and put in dry soil for a month maybe 2 inches deep (not so deep that eventual watering would drown/rot it), and then get soil moist a little bit, then start watering lightly 6-8 weeks in and as you notice it getting fatter eventually the top section will start growing again, and the others with cut tops will be shooting out pups
the pups are very useful for grafting other cactus, and you can also cut pups off after they're maybe 6 inches and they might even root on their own when repeating the planting procedure above

Thanks they are cut and drying now. I have some LW seeds and buttons on the way so I will have plenty of grafting stock. Thanks for your help, friendo!

careful with lopes on pedro stocks though, pedro wants to grow like mad, but lophs prefer slower growth - risk of busting open at the seams!
as the thing mentioned, be sure to plant correctly - areoles should be pointing upwards

Good looking out. Thanks. I know I have seen some huge lophs on San pedros before that look like they are about to explode!
