Colonization temperature for grain jars ( heating cable?)
    #27002540 - 10/25/20 10:51 AM (3 years, 3 months ago)

Hi again!

I've been incubating my grain jars for a couple of days now
(so far, everything perfect), and I'm actually thinking about the temperature.

I read that if the temperatures are over 70F it should colonize (even less?), although more slowly, and that the important thing is not to exceed 86F.

(for p.cubensis "ecuador", btw)

The thing is: the temperature in the room where I do it's usually around 65F at night and 68F during the day (apx). (65F right now, at 17:50)

I have a hotbed with a heating cable under a layer of sand, which when
I turn it on it reaches temperatures of (at most) 76F (just 15w, and with the sand layer). I connect it only for the day, when it's particularly cold,
less than 68F (for cactus seedlings and so on).

I know that the subject of temperature has a lot of debate, and that there are opinions of all kinds, but do you think that placing the jars upon the sand ("hot" for the day) is a good idea?

The problem is that where I have that seedbed, it's behind a window with indirect sun, covered with a thin curtain. Would it be too much light?

I am not particularly concerned with the fact that it takes a little longer than necessary to colonize, but I am not particularly concerned about exceeding that period in such a way that it can be easily avoided.

Would that kind of heat damage the process?

Thank you very much for the tips, they are helping me a lot!

No.

Your temps are fine, leave it as-is.
