Rehydrating Grains
    #27002450 - 10/25/20 09:46 AM (3 years, 3 months ago)

Hey Guys,

I got my 6 qt Presto today so I am excited to use it.  I have a bunch of popcorn right now so I figured I’d use that for the time being.  My question is, I only have a little coffee left.  Like maybe a teaspoon or two.  Is that enough?  How important is the coffee part?  I also have light corn syrup.  I don’t have any gypsum or anything.  I really wasn’t planning on running to the store but if I need more coffee I’ll go get it.  I do have some decaf instant coffee but I doubt that will work.

Coffee isn't a requirement for grains, neither is gypsum.

What are you going to do with the corn syrup? I don' think it has a use for prepping grains.

I've never personally messed with popcorn. I've heard it can be kind of a mess to prep. It's also expensive so it might be worth your time to pick up a bag of wheat or some other cheap grain.

If you're making grains you only need grains. :whathesaid:

I just saw someone on YouTube using corn syrup so I thought since I didn’t have enough coffee maybe that would work.

I just have popcorn laying around and wanted to make some today.  I am going to buy some WBS or something during the week.

Oh awesome!  I thought you had to use other nutrients for the mycelium to thrive.  I’ll just use the grains then.

I’m still a newb so thanks for all the advice!  It helps a lot.  😀

So I rehydrated way too much.  I put everything in jars but with my 6 qt I’ll have to do it in like 3 batches.  Is it okay if I wait a few days to PC some jars?  Or should you do it right after you rehydrate?

It's best to do it sooner than later. If you wait too long to PC the hydrated grains your jars will become moldy. Whenever I do grains the most I wait before pc'ing is overnight.

I’d keep them in the fridge and rinse them at least once a day.. probably wouldn’t use them past 3 days
