rinse after soak/simmer?
    #26950051 - 09/22/20 08:22 PM (3 years, 4 months ago)

I'm soaking my grains just a few hours with Lime/gypsum/coffee.

Do you recommend rinsing the before, after simmering?

Thanks in advance

You rinse with any additives? Or just water?
You rinse before simmer only then?

Why putting all those things into soaking, and then you rinse them? No logic, sorry.

I'm thinking the same. That's why I ask.
I found that wheat should be rinsed because it release a lot of starch. But if I rinse after soaking with the lime/gypsum/coffee it would remove it.

Maybe other types of grains don't need that

All grains already have all the nutrients needed, there is no reason to add lime,  coffee, or snake venom.i rinse before boiling,  it makes my jars look cleaner.

Bros! What happens when you boil the grains! they absorb water yeah?!

so if you have extra nutris in the water its gonna go INTO the grains. a quick rinse might wash off a little bit but your removing the starch so its a balancing act like everything in this game.

The lime is gonna slow growth the fuck up, trust me I've done it . If you still can, rinse the shit out of that batch before simmering to rinse off as much lime as possible.

Also, never rinse after simmering, it defeats one of its purposes, which is to steam the grains dry so the kernels get dry on the outside much faster.

These last couple years I've been doing a "boil only" prep, no rinsing no soaking. But will be going back to the traditional rinsing->soaking overnight with hot water->simmering->steaming dry.

Just throw your grain in simmering/boiling water till it's plump then drain. You can load jars with hot grain and pc right away if you want to. I like a good hard boil and it only takes 10-20 minutes or so.

No need for extra additives or extra steps. Grain + water. Always works great. Good luck.

Man, knowing this would've saved me a good bit of time over the past few days. Thanks for letting me know.  I've got to let some soaked and simmered seeds soak over night tonight, for about 7-8 hours, so if they start to smell super funny, I go your way.
