I loathe how American politics is spreading to Canada. * 1
    #26996870 - 10/21/20 07:07 PM (3 years, 3 months ago)

I have a large number of friends in Alberta and they are constantly sharing pro-Trump memes and other assorted republican nonsense on Facebook. I am or was a Canadian conservative for a long time but I'm not sure where I stand anymore.

I understand the saturation of American media in our lives but to see so many people and many I respect be brainwashed is inane. I've lost a friend or two now from snapping and asking them how the hell they can support a guy who has cost us Canadian jobs and spoken so poorly of our country. Why suckle the cock of someone who can NOT benefit our country at all? He holds no influence here.

I suppose it goes for both left and right wing but I see far more of the right wing propaganda and disinformation spilling over. American media is so subversive.

It's frustrating for us Americans as well and please know that most normal Americans understand that this administration is madness and many of us want to see it go. It's getting to a point where his supporters are forming paramilitary groups and making plots to murder his opposition. It's quite serious.  Trump is totally fine with it of course. And if he thinks he can expand his influence to other countries he'd certainly do it. Trump is in it for himself and himself only.

I think the correct amount of people will do the right thing and vote him out of office. He's unlikely to go peacefully though so... pray for us. And we'll pray for you.

Alberta is a hotbed of these morons, otherwise they can't really get serious traction here; it's like the rest of us get exposure to the craziness through news stories and become immune to the programming. Not all Albertans are like that, but only they have that critical-mass of wannabe-cowboys to actually get elected. Even there, it's like they have to re-invent their bullshit brand every decade or so just to keep the blinders on their dupes.
Right-wing politics is purely for suckers, otherwise how could you convince people who adamantly call themselves Christians to cut social services? To people who aren't totally lost it makes no sense. Personally I'll never vote for an actual right-leaning party because it's all the same lies they're trying to institutionalize no matter if they're in Brazil or Banff. They even fuck up the economy, not sure how people still associate them with fiscal responsibility! Liberals are as right-wing as I would even consider, none of this BushJr/Trump-lite crap, and we have the NDP too if you need a left-wing left-wing.

#2 is right, but he did say "normal" so that excludes losers who grasp onto turds like Trump.

You do realize that the American media is dominated by left wing politics, right?

There's one mainstream conservative media network in the United States. Fox News. The rest: CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, NPR, PBS  and so on either lean left or are outright far left.

If you think that the American media is trying to brainwash the population with right wing propaganda then I really don't know what to tell you other than you're about as misinformed as you can possibly be on that belief.

There's a really good book called "The Smear" by Sharyl Attkisson which shows how the echo chamber that some people live in has been created.  You get a coordinated program of biased or downright dishonest information fed to you by CNN, the NYT, the Washington Post, the major broadcasters, a bunch of bloggers, etc., and it even fairly bright people are convinced that it must be true.  They're reading it and hearing it on all sides, so it must be true. It comes from both sides, but the left has a much more willing audience among the media.  Read it and you'll never look at the news your being fed the same way again.

I'll have to check it out. For the longest I thought the idea of brainwashing was the stuff of movies. But it's really not that hard at all it appears. The power of the media is indeed immensely more powerful than my wildest dreams would have ever led me to believe. For example I have a friend who I grew up with who has never been into politics in his entire life. Well he got married and his wife watches CNN. So now he's all of a foremost expert on national politics and recites everything that CNN tells him.

And yes there are conservatives who do the exact same thing with Fox.

Here's what gets me about how much the left loathes and despises Fox though. The left has literally every other mainstream media network in this country. The conservatives have one. One. But the angry liberals don't even want them to have that one

Sheesh, just let them have their one network. Yes it slants their news to fit their constituents. Which is exactly zero percent different than what far left networks like CNN and MSNBC do. Only difference is those networks spoon feed them exactly what they want to hear. I swear the left wants to hold a monopoly on everything. It's like their whole if you don't fall in line with us we'll cancel you playbook.

Anyway the person who started this thread must have gotten this country mixed up with some other country, because there's no way that anyone can actually believe that the American media is driven by right wing propaganda. There's just no way.

You, as a person from a real country (Canada), can never be an American Republican. The core of their being is against free healthcare. If you wanted to be a Republican you would also have to believe in getting rid of free healthcare in Canada. Its the same in any other real country like Australia or the many many others.

Theres this "im the adult" feeling associated with supporting Trump. Like they are doing the hard thing and telling others to pull themselves up by the bootstraps. Thats what draws in the older crowd.

Doesnt really matter though. Healthcare will eventually be free in America and all these dumbasses will be on the wrong side of history yet again. Just like pot legalization and gay marriage. And in the end we will all die and be forgotten. So whatevs.

Much love good vibes.
