thoughts on this movie? I just saw it and thought it was really good. I like how it explains fate- the world around us pushes us towards our destiny, and the way it pushes us seems like a coincidence but is in fact more necessary and important than any human can ever understand.
That's at least my take. I think it's a very psychedelic movie, not just in a trippy or hallucinatory way but also just because when on psychedelics I begin to feel as though there's a greater plan outside of my understanding that I'm constantly playing a part in. There's also a very loop-y feeling to how the movie begins and ends (it begins with him having sleepwalked to the place where he has to go to save the world, as though it was a failed attempt or a glimpse into the future) that I don't quite understand.
What do you think of it? I don't think it's the best by any means and certainly gets a little new-agey-bullshity but it still gives a strong feeling of mystery and wonder at how the world really works.

Yes, it is a great film with a superb soundtrack. I think much in this movie is open to interpretation/imagination and that is something I really enjoy.

I really dig this movie. I haven't seen it in yonks, but I always thought the approach to relativity was interesting and it got me on an Einstein and Michio Kaku kick when I was a senior.

I love the movie but hate the Christian under tones.

Donnie Darko is definitely on my favorite movie list

It's not, the movie is about divine intervention.
Donnie was supposed to die, he didn't, then he proceeded to ruin everything, or at least exist in a forked reality. That's why at the end he dies, and he's happy about it. His insanity is a product of his slow realization that he should be dead. It's not really insanity so much as it is a perversion of reality as a result of his unintended existence, I guess.
I don't know, I love the movie. It's not really about mental health though.

It's hard to tell because the time line is broken. It a lot like Primer in that sense, or maybe Rick and Morty if you want to be trendy.

Have you seen S. Darko yet?
