I think he's smart man and the best leader the US has had in recent history. Trump has been his little puppet since day one.

As a leader, probably the most important person in the world, closely followed by Xi Jinping.
As a person, probably the most important person in the world, and I'd have a beer with him.

Another shitty right wing authoritarian who rose to power through the intelligence complex.
He’s smart, though, can’t deny that.

The question I keep asking myself is are we better off with a bumbling fool of an autocrat, or a really shrewd one who can keep his dominant personality characteristics in check?
I think it's an interesting question. The Russian people obviously want more empire, that's why they dumped Gorbechov, and many support Putin. In the U.S. many of us, on the one hand want to abandon the expensive role of "the worlds policeman", but do we want to cede the other two thirds of the world to Russia's military strength and China's obvious economic dominance and growing military presence?
I don't have a clear answer to that as a personal opinion.
But, to keep it simple, Trump=stupid, Putin=smart.

No, the Russian people don't want more "empire", they simply want to prevent the American empire from spreading across the globe. Do you remember when Wesley Clark leaked that America was going to take over 7 middle eastern countries for control of their oil?
And when you say we're "the worlds policemen" you actually mean we police other countries to prevent them from implementing communism, right? Because as you know, we don't police countries that actually need policing, like many African countries.

This thread asked for opinions, so I gave mine. Yours is different but everybody already knows that.
And stop saying things to the effect of when I said something, what I actually meant was something else. I said what I meant.

He rose through the KGB before the fall and then (as many others did) gained power through the new government.
It’s the same way the Bush family got into power in the US. Well that, and funding the Nazis.

^ what Ecstatic said
He was KGB and rose during the fall of the SU. He has skirted around term limits to keep himself at the head of the State. He is bourgeois, but it’s fun when he BTFOs America.
