Hello, I recently had 2 totes going. Both from the same multispore solution. One tote grew beautifully basically wall to wall good size mushrooms. The other produced nothing but small mushrooms with somewhat sporadic growth. I’ve made a lot of totes and never seen anything like this. Any insight as to why this occurred is much appreciated. I almost just want to toss the tote, even though it seems like it still has a lot to give as it has not contracted really at all.

I had a grow like that a while back. I don't have a real answer for yo but I took the time and picked as much of those little ones out of the way. Dehydrated them and ground them up. They were extremely potent. Not that yours will be.
Anyway after I removed some of them I misted the box again and let it sit. 2 days later all the pins tripled in size and had a nice flush. Too me they looked to crowded and were fighting to grow. Once the competition was removed they got bigger. Maybe I'm way off though.
I'd say I removed about 50% of what was growing

Cool, thanks for the feedback man. I guess I’ll get in there and cut a lot of that out and see what happens. Hopefully it’ll do a lot better the next flush.

Give it another day before you do just to see what happens.
These always start off looking like that but continue to grow and turned out really good. All the trays did that and came out well. Subsequent flushes had more normal fruits.

There is phenotypic expression at play here for sure. The colony could also be fighting something invisible like bacteria or a virus (mycoviruses are a real thing).
You'll know by the end of tomorrow if they'll get any bigger.

mushrooms are like 90% water. gotta make sure the substrate has enough water and that surface conditions encourage this too.
