    #26994044 - 10/20/20 07:12 AM (3 years, 3 months ago)

Hey guys, I spawned these shoeboxes(well not shoeboxes perse, but, pretty much)~1.5 days ago the first two and yesterday the last two, The myc is colonizing fairly quickly i think! The grocery bag idea is genius, thanks and props to Bod. Opinions? Any feedback is going to help me! i'll keep updating this thread as the boxes progresses.

I think so far so good. I’m doing Willy myco’s mini mono tub right now. I also just spawned mine yesterday. With Willy Tec I can’t check it out for 7-10 days.

The tubs are 5,5 q. The jars i used hold just a lil lower than a q, like 2/3 q. Then spawned 1:2 with only coir, that's 1 jar of spawn to 2 jars of coir on each tub.

Ok gotcha. For some reason they looked bigger to me in the pics. I pretty much did the same. 6qt tub. 1qt of rye berry spawn.

hey Fraki

looks good so far man, I wish you all the best with it

my unsolicited opinion, skip anything from willy, unless you want a video on what not to do

you have folks here at your disposal with infinitely more talent that you could learn some actual useful mycological techniques from

no diss to you Exstortion, I am happy you are making willy's teachings work... I am not some sort of expert cultivator myself by any stretch of the imagination, but imho there are so many bad habits you don't want in the way willy does things that you can't recommend him to people who wanna try to be seriously learning about this stuff

Hey Nef, what's up! Thanks! Okay, gonna check them either way, not saying  I'm gonna follow them or anything, it's just good to read all the info out there, useful or not, to decide upon it and go for what's the best for you, maybe i'll learn just how you are not supposed to do it! haha appreciate the input man!

Update 10/23: 5 days in, the more developed boxes are starting to show a few tiny droplets on the surface, and on the bag too, first time misting and 2 or 3 puffs only as they were pretty humid already, not yet full colonization, but pretty close. All of them are pretty good so far i think. Opinions?

Check out the thread on proper surface conditions. But looks ok so far to me. Is that shade or something in the bottom right corner of pic 4 making it look blue?

Hey coversall! Definitely checking that thread!
I knew someone was gonna point that out on the 4th pic haha, but yeah it's my phone shadowing that part of the surface! On the other pics on that same spot there is also that shadow if you look closely

Awesome! With this set up your grows should need very little attention, so be careful not to love them to death. It's easy to do!

Hey I don’t see no contamination. Keep it up and u will most likely see pins soon. I can’t check my tub till Tuesday with the tek I’m using. But I’m getting great results from my Brf cakes at the moment.

I’ve been listening to Terrance McKenna and Ram Dass to try to get courage, spiritually, and insight. When I take these. I think I wanna do the Terrance McKenna way 5g dried in the dark by myself.

Hey Exstortion Great cakes, looking good as well, keep at it! Hope the tub is coming neat. On the 5g dried haha, do you have prior experience on using psychs? if that's not the case then i recommend you should start with a lower dose! Safe travels!

Update #2:

Few questions here.
Is this box at full colonization?
and
I took a few pics of the surface, to show the conditions as of now, there are millions of tiny little beads of water, are these the proper conditions for pins to form?. Also, read that evaporation from the surface is a huge pinning trigger, so should i crack a few more holes on the bag to allow more FAE? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated!

Looks like it's doing fine, just stay patenint and keep the surface conditions going. Time went so slowly when I was waiting on my shoeboxes, but when I looked back I realised how it really hadn't taken long. More FAE will always help, but if you do increase the FAE just keep an eye on the moisture as they may dry out quicker. But If you've already got a hole or two in your bags then I'd say just stay calm and stick to the plan.

Definitely don’t over mist. Developing primordia are vulnerable. If you see any surface moisture or droplets in your bag, that should suffice for the time being.

Update! First pins, so excited!

I'm getting side pins as well, the wall of the box seems to be super wet, and that is where the pins are forming, should i up the misting on the surface, to provide better conditions there?

Congrats dude! Next time try and use a liner to better prevent side pins. I personally only mist a little bit when it doesn’t look like it’s glistening on the surface area. I also just noticed pins in my tub today also

My first tub as well. I have another tub colonizing now.

Wait have you got air holes and polyfill on your tub? More of a minimono setup?

Just leave the lid on, or prop it open a bit for more FAE.

Wow your shoeboxes look amazing. I’m gonna try that next time. I have a 3lb bag of AA+ almost finished colonizing. I was thinking of doing a few shoe boxes with that. But now I’m thinking I wanna try a 66qt monotub. Any suggestions on a monotub tek that would give me a great pinset?

Fraid not. Two or three shoeboxes grows all I need and then some so I haven't looked at bigger grows. But monotubs, like shoe boxes, seem to be best kept simple. Just talking off the top of my head, a big part of it seems to be dialing in the FAE for your conditions.

I like the look of Bod's unmod/bodified mono because it's KISS to the core.

Those grows were BRF > CVG. So I just grated up the cakes with the smallest holes on the cheese grater and mixed it thoroughly then added a thinish psuedo-casing of more CVG, I forget how deep but it was really just to make sure all the exposed bits of BRF were covered.

I've got some PESA on rye at the moment which I'll likely take the same approach with. Just mix it thoroughly with CVG and add a psuedo-casing.

I wish I had some agar

Honestly agar is way less tricky than I thought it was going to be. I was pretty intimidated by it and thought that making proper petris in an SAB was too risky. But after have some decent success with no-pours I made my first batch of proper pouring plates and it was a breeze! It's a lot of fun as well, I don't need a lot of mushrooms so agar gives me something to tinker with between grows.

Yea I really want to get into agar. I have a Jedi mind fuck LC I would love to do agar with. Also I would really like to start cloning my big and nice mushrooms so I can grow a army of them. Does anyone here have success growing JMF? I heard they can be tricky and get contams easily. I injected a 3lb bag of rye the same time I did the AA+. I used a SAB and used the same sterile precautions I always use. Some reason the bag had contams after a week.

Noo, i will mist in a couple days pretty heavy and see how it goes, not a massive first flush so i think it wont make a difference dunking right now.
For dehydrating i made a dehydrator with a cardboard box with 2 holes on the front and back, paper sheets to hold the mushs, like shelves in the box? and puted a space heater on full from the front hole, discharging the humid air from the back hole. It's a shit build but works lol, in ~3 hours they almost cracker dry. Dehydrating right now, but how its looking, the harvest from 2 boxes, probably ~20g dry from 250 wet.

Still almost a oz. I been told the flushes get smaller but the mushrooms get bigger each flush so I guess it almost evens out. I just put my 2nd tub into fruiting today. The mycelium is a lot thicker and very white on this tub. I’m hoping for a better pinset on this one.

Hey guys another update!, 2nd flush incoming:
So i got a question if anyone wants to chime in:
Why does the myc fuzz up like that? on the sides of the box appeared like fuzzy myc balls like in the pic. Opinions on the sub? and what to do next, do i dunk the sub after the harvest of these guys and let it ride for another flush?

I'm getting side pins as well, the wall of the box seems to be super wet, and that is where the pins are forming, should i up the misting on the surface, to provide better conditions there?

Should've used a black trashbag as a liner for the bottom.

PF Tek sucks bro. It's alot of unnecessary work when you can increase yield with an easier and less time consuming method.

Why waste a tub? A bag does the same job and leaves you with a free tub to grow more mushrooms.

:whathesaid: why use another tub for anything more than growing, 2 tubs of mush > 1 tub of mush

I ended up not needing a liner, the side pins just didn't thrive, just top pins, if you get your surface right liners are not needed

PF tek is cool as hell man, good way to start as well, i did some glasses just for fun and got some nice mushies from them, plus PF doesn't require a PC
