Cool, thanks for the advice.

I believe I have some musical talent. I sang in a church choir (I know, I know, shut up) for about six years as a youngster. After that, I played trumpet for three more years, and have currently played bass guitar for three years. I also am fairly decent on piano, despite having had no lessons.

I have practiced scratching a few times, but not enough to be able to tell if I have any natural talent in the area. I did, however, enjoy it quite a bit and would definitely not get sick of this, especially since it would be quite a lrage investment.

I've been considering getting one Stanton STR8-80 (which I've read good things about for beginners). I think I'll just practice scratching for a while on that, and then upgrade, possibly to Technics. This turntable should be about $250 to $300.

I'm looking at getting a Vestax PMC-06 PRO A mixer, which I've also heard good things about. This should run me from $200 to $300.

If anyone else has experience with scratching or either of these products, feel free to reply.

Mainly, I'd just be focused on scratching to begin with. Did you ever get into it, or just consider it?

I was mainly into the music and expanded into wanting to do it myself, but money proved to be too big of an obstacle. I did a lot of reading online at sites like skratchpiklz.com (big bboard community) and Wicked Styles, etc. I don't know if any of those sites are still around. Usually turntables in the price range of the one you mentioned have a Direct Drive motor, but in case it doesn't you want one with a Direct Drive motor rather than a belt driven one.

Yeah, Vestax apparently moved manufacturing from Japan to China, so the cost of materials remained the same but labor went way down. Hurrah for the little kids making shit for Americans!
