Help sending oyster culture in mail
    #26992899 - 10/19/20 12:32 PM (3 years, 3 months ago)

I’m trying to figure out the best/easiest way to send this oyster clone out for a trade but I’m not 100% sure about some of the specifics. I was just gonna send a plate but I’ve read the agar can melt, which the post office does not approve of. So I think I’m just gonna sterilize some popsicle sticks and colonize them on a new plate and send them in a ziplock.

Is this a viable method? Is there a specific range of moisture I should be aiming for with the sticks? Will it be okay to mail without any cushioning in a regular envelope?

I have never had a problem with agar melting and I have sent many dishes and microtubes. I wouldn't worry about it unless you will be shipping to the south side of hell. Agar melts at 185F. At that temp the mycelium will not survive anyway.

you can put microtubes in an envelope and ship cheaply...

I’m a little late on sending it out so I guess it should be fine to just send a couple plates then lol.
