My buddy and I were having a discussion and it came up that there were a handful of moments in someone's life that makes them change permanently. what have those moments been for you? and for habits, what have those habits been for you guys? what about books?
for me: -mantra chanting, specifically mrityunjaya, and gayatri mantra. I do them both daily. in quarantine up to an hour per day -meditation, 5-10 per day -ketamine -certain economists, specifically Thomas Sowell (libertarian economist) -politicians (Ron Paul, his book "revolution") -"Can't hurt me" by David Goggins

My mum, telling me often as a small child, that I should 'question everything'.
That is without doubt the single most transformative experience of my life, IMO. I am eternally grateful for it.
It's also the one that has caused me the most problems when it comes to adaptation to this world, but that's a story for another day.
Of course there's all the peak states through drugs, sex, meditation, and adrenaline fueled adventures, but they're par for the course when one is set on a trajectory, IMO.
-------------------- Let it be seen that you are nothing. And in knowing that you are nothing... there is nothing to lose, there is nothing to gain. What can happen to you? Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. It will only destroy what you are not. --Jac O'keeffe

Saw a random guy get shot, employer got robbed by masked bandits at a trimming job, got a bad injury from glass with nobody else home and nearly passed out. Various things like that have added up to make me very antisocial, paranoid and high strung.

Being the primary 24/7 caretaker for my mother as she slowly died of cancer. That definitely affected me, and how I view the world and even my family. I don't share that as a sob story, it's a fact of life almost everyone here will have or has had to deal with a dying/dead parent/sibling/spouse and it does alter your perception. It really made me take stock of who I wanted in my life, and what I considered important.

Very biblical, but on a pure philosophical note, yes exactly.

Meditation, quitting weed, quitting cigarettes, quitting alcohol, mushrooms, lysergamides, various books. That's just a few off the top of my head.

I used to be christian. i dont accept the new testamanet anymore due to theological inconsistencies. its compmicated. I was raised in an irreligious, left winged house but I am religious and conservative, yes.
I started seeing more shrromerites move away from the left a while ago. but a lot of it seemed to be anti PC sentiments from people who were economically completely on the left and sometime shitty alt right, racist garbage.
But appreciation for libertarian sentiments is not all that uncommon around here these days, man and every once in a while ill get surprised and see a shroomerite say something that a true libertarian would say.
sometimes that even includes a very surprising appreciation for pro life sentiments from people which I wouldnt expect it.
I notice all kinds of little nuggets around here. this place isnt entirely progressive at all. far from it.

-Experiencing heartbreak for the first time.
-Gravitating towards the drug using delinquents when I first started high school and subsequently not assimilating to their Eshay culture. Though The drug use stuck and I found some real friends a year or two later.
-Discovering the joys of music for the first time.
-Hunting mushrooms for the first time. Funnily it in a foreign country, for edibles, with relatives. But I enjoyed it so much that a few years later I was overly keen to hunt for actives back at home when I learned about them. It's now a big part of my winter exercise regimen along with finding edibles. I also enjoy learning about fungi in general now. This website has been a huge help in that regard.
-Also taking Shrooms too of course

So many small pushes in different directions, I don't think individual moments really account for too great of an influence for the most part. Probably leaving the island I spent much of childhood on, to move to town at age 10 was probably one of the biggest single events, even though it's not so sharp in my memory now. Another is deciding to drop a highschool calculus course on the first day, because I realized I didn't need it for my university application and just happening to bump into my all time-favorite art teacher while waiting, and he got the admin folks to switch me into his art class, where I met the girl I live with now.
LSD and mushrooms both fit in there too, but I almost feel I've learned more in the last two years where I've basically admitted to myself that psychedelics might not be for me, and that's ok. They, and being an introspective/withdrawn kid likely sparked contemplative habits, but I think I've learned more from picking apart psychedelic experience rather than embracing a direct message from it, if that makes sense.
