Anyone know how to get traditional inuit cloths?

I started to read The Fat Of The Land by Vilhjalmur Steffansson, he was an Artic explorer that lived with the Inuit, and this is a couple paragraphs from his book detailing Inuit clothing, his argument here is they dont have to eat any more then a normal person living in the cold, but im into really warm clothing, I have a $100 sweater thats good to like -20 and I wear it all winter instead of a coat, but I still have to wear a long sleeve shirt underneath it, I will get cold if im just wearing a t-shirt underneath, so these Inuit clothing seem alluring to me
Quote:
In a discussion that considers everything from the dietetic point of view, there is not time to explain fully the Eskimos' clothes, how the materials are prepared and how the garments are made. Many books, however, including some written by me, have covered this subject in detail. I simply state, then, that the clothes the Eskimos wear in the Arctic during the coldest month of the year, January or February, weigh under ten pounds, which is a good deal less than the winter equipment of the average New York business man. These clothes are soft as velvet, and it is only a slight exaggeration to say that the wearers have to use a test to find out whether the day is cold. At —40° F., a Mackenzie Eskimo,or a white man dressed in their style, sits outdoors and chats almost as comfortably as one does in a thermostat-regulated room. The cold, about which the polar explorer can read upon the scale of his thermometer, will touch only those parts of his body which are exposed, the face and the inside of the breathing apparatus, a small fraction of the body, needing little fuel for counterbalance. Warm and completely protected elsewhere, he can sit comfortably even with bare hands. Indeed, the ears, particularly liable to frost, seem to be about the only parts likely to freeze if exposed at 40°below zero while most of the rest of the body is warm. This holds only during calm weather. A strong wind at —20° F. or —30° F. will freeze almost any exposed part of the body, if given time. But Eskimo clothes are nearly wind-proof, as part of being nearly cold proof, so that, even in a wind, little caloric energy is needed for counterbalancing a low temperature.

A most interesting question. My best guess would be a Inuit Pow-Wow, if they actually exist. Or perhaps a "Trading Store" on Inuit land.

You can get the cowichin sweaters by emailing the band. Usually the indian bands have stores and are eager to sell their traditional clothes. They aren't cheap though.
I looked into the cowichin sweater and it was like $500.
I'm not sure what the seal skins might be, but you should be able to get them.

Definitely not an economy friendly option, but if you're looking for something ultra comfortable, checkout qiviut clothing.
www.mountainmasche.com has a decent selection

Maybe you can make something out of sheepskin. Those are warm but can be pretty cheap compared to other furs.

From two $75 sheepskins you could probably make a pretty good coat.

Seems like that would make sense.
I have a reindeer fur from Finland I think. It was $150 but that was probably 10 years ago.

Reindeer fur? Wow. I bet thats really warm too. Animals have Nature's best warmth. Otters are a great example (God Rest their animal Souls).

A good wool coat will see to most of your needs unless you need something for really extreme weather. Word of warning, good wool coats are expensive, but require little cleaning and are pretty damn waterproof.

I'm pretty sure one can match the performance, or even exceed it, with modern synthetics.
I have a suit I wear on my motorbike which I can throw on at 0c with nothing more than a T-Shirt underneath and remain warm; even factoring in the -20c induced by wind chill:

Is there a reason you want traditional stuff?

Supporting local native industries for a sustainable harvest isn't any worse than eating any other wild game or any other fur or leather.

Im really into warm cloths, the fact that the book paragraph says the Inuit clothing is good to -40 (C or F) and feel as comfortable as indoors is very alluring to me, the down sides is the book also says the cloths rot if you sweat, so theres downsides, it says the inside of the Inuit home is like tropical temperatures and the kids go naked while the adults wear old clothing that are full of tears and holes, they hang up their outdoor cloths upon entering the home, so they dont get wet with sweat and rot
2 years ago I bought a Wind River T-max Hoodie from Marks Work Wearhouse thats good to like -20C (-4F) but I didnt read the care instructions and I tumble dried it one too many times and it shrunk, so last year I was going to go into debt on my credit card buying a new one, and a Shroomery member (whos in this thread) bought me a new one, I wore it all last year instead of a coat, and plan to this year too
I could use warmer cloths though, to stay as warm as I can I wear long johns, jeans, long john shirt, t-shirt, and long sleeve shirt and my T-max hoodie, and even then I get a little cold, not feeling warm like im in a "thermostat regulated room", during December when the snow falls and the temperature is a little bit warmer maybe im as comfortable as summer all bundled up, just chilling waiting for the bus, but a month or two later, especially if theres a wind, Im definitely not as comfortable, and I hate being outside
Another thing thats alluring to me is ancient wisdom, how long has there been Inuit? like 20,000 years or something, staying that warm in that climate, that long ago is something that I dont think should be forgotten
