I have done it before ! And it worked great it just took a little longer .... basically I put damprid in a tub and a layer of foil over that then put the mushies on the foil and close the tub ... and just wait I’m trying to avoid spending money on a Dehydrator 🤷🏻♂️ Cuz I’ve tried dehydrators and they don’t seem to work very well for me ... I would end up doing all out on a badass one if I did that ! But this is just a personal stash... that I’ll keep for a while . Not like I’m mass producing

I got my dehydrator for $30 and I’ve had it for almost 5 years so....
Plus I use it for many many things besides mushrooms. Totally worth it to me. I couldn’t imagine waiting for my mushrooms to dry only using damprid

I use damp-rid to reduce the humidity in the room while i'm fan drying large amounts of mushrooms but that is only to reduce their mass before I put them in the dehydrator for 24 hours to properly dry them out. They must be totally cracker dry otherwise they will deteriorate. Best of luck.

You fan your cubes before you dry for 24 hours? Total overkill. I like to remove some water from lion's mane before I dry because they are sponges but that's it.

Yes - it works really well. I do fan-dry for about a day then put it in an airtight box on metal mesh with damp rid under that, not touching any of the mushrooms. They dry completely out within a few days, depending on how many you have.

I saw this post online that mentioned people getting an oily residue leaking out of damprid onto floors and stuff.

Sure you aren't putting your fruits directly on it so it may not be the best comparison, but why even bother with something so slow and potentially hazardous when you can get a dehydrator for next to nothing?

Dehydrators are like 30 to 40 bucks for the cheap kind with nesting trays. They work really well and if you only have a small amount to dry you can just use a tray or two. Using anything other than a dehydrator to dry mushrooms is absurd.

I happened to have damp-rid laying around and only a few mushrooms to dry - it was a quick and easy solution, using these instructions. But of course, if you're planning to do this a lot, then yes, def invest in the dehydrator.
