Can WBS drying too long have effects?
    #26990455 - 10/17/20 06:21 PM (3 years, 3 months ago)

Was just letting wbs dry enough to pass tp test but was getting some bacteria here and there. Thought it may be due to still being too wet so i changed to letting it dry overnight. Now its seems to me im having slow germination and or colonization times. Can this be because the seed is now too dry? Or is drying overnight ok?

What is your method for drying the grain?

That could certainly be too dry... but if you were having problems with bacteria, it was more likely your inoculant (ms syringe?), your sterile technique, your PC process, or your lids.  Even grains a little too wet shouldn't have bacteria unless you let it get in there somehow.

Have some medicinal mushrooms and want to get the most out of them?  Try this double extraction method.

Dump into 2 strainers. Stir once every 5-15 min (to release steam from surface) for like an hour til its almost cool. Then I dump onto cookie sheets and let it dry and cool a little more til it passes tp test. Then load jars. All ive changed is leaving on the cookie sheets for longer.

Yeah been doing syringes to grain. Which I know is frowned upon but ive had way more success than issues. I think once I get some more fruits ill try tissue sample to agar and see if that works better. Never tried agar before. Im going to order 10 pre poured plates and see how it goes.

Good idea, there's a lot less fail once you get working with a clean culture, it's well worth the effort learning agar work, and it's easy.
