Is This Lion's Mane?
    #26990208 - 10/17/20 02:55 PM (3 years, 3 months ago)

Specimen #1:

Habitat:
Fond on freshly broken wooden log that was laying laterally on the ground. It was likely an oak tree but can't say for sure. However, there was a lot of Oak in the area. Forest is in the bluffs of the Lower Hixon Forest in La Crosse, WI. The area is unique for Wisconsin because it's within the driftless area (the area the glaciers missed).

Gills:
No gills

Stem:
No stem

Cap:
No cap

Spore print color:
I am just getting into this hobby and I don't have the equipment for a spore print quite yet.

Bruising:
The older ones were more golden brown.

Other information:
I washed this mushroom to remove dirt before taking the picture and that is why it appears to rotten

Specimen #2:

Habitat:
Fond on freshly broken wooden log that was laying laterally on the ground. Found in clumps of 4 or 5.

Bruising:
Too young

Other information:
The sponge like design on this specimen made me think that this could not be lions mane

I think #1 is Hericium, but I'm not sure if it's Hericium erinaceus because it looks like it has branching to it

#2 doesn't look like Hericium, but really cool find!

(take with grain of salt, not trusted identifier)
