What would cause massive abortion rate like this? Too slow to introduce fruiting conditions after knotting? Contam?

Why u think those are aborts? Seems like they are going to start growing soon, in few days.

To me it looks like they were severely dry (the cracking) and are turning back into mycelium now.

Yeah they’re definitely not healthy. They do look dry but also it seems like there’s gotta be bacteria or something to cause those weird growths.

I’m sure a tc will know.

Every time i see that carpet of gnarly pins nothing really good ever comes of it. I think its bacterial spawn putting pressure on the mycelium. Sometimes with bacteria you get amazing pinsets and then low weight fruits of just gnarly shit

Definitely not too dry. Maybe too wet.

Cracking is too dry.

I'm a newb so not sure if this would help. However, I could have sworn I've seen advice to mix a peroxide/sterile water solution to help overcome bacteria problems. IDK if this is one of the times it would help or not.

Yes, safe.  People get fruits from bacterial spawn all the time and the fruits are fine.  Your stomach acid kills bacteria.  If you have any worries, drink a couple ounces of apple cider vinegar first.
