Nice. I never read that they are edible. Now I have something else to collect while I'm searching for cyans, since these guys are everywhere. Maybe I oughta try them in my persimmon bread this year. Do you know if they taste better picked young or mature?

i don't think so man.
laccata have a yellowish margin that is often wavy.

after some more research i think what i found might be
Laccaria laccata var. pallidifolia...

actually I'm pretty certain. Spore prints were taken and according to this,http://www.mushroomexpert.com/laccaria_laccata.html It's fairly definate  However, if you are absolutely, positively certain your Laccaria has white, rather than purplish, basal mycelium (see the discussion on the page for Lacaria bicolor before you decide)--and your collection was made under hardwoods in eastern North America, without any conifers present--you may be able to identify Laccaria laccata without recourse to microscopic analysis.
I'm skeptical about your mush being L. Laccata var. pallidifolia

we'll probably never know, laccaria laccata is apparently extremely variable. I don't see how you could rule out http://www.mushroomexpert.com/laccaria_proxima.html it has that same mealy cap texture and orangish-brown coloration that your have

Laccaria's not active, right? I have a white spore print from about a year ago that I found, you should be able to find the post I made about it too. Apparently they're "quite pretty" when young.

As far as anyone knows, Laccaria doesn’t have an active species.
All Laccaria are quite “pretty” in my opinion though. Especially Laccaria bicolor.
