White golden teachers?
    #26989447 - 10/17/20 01:47 AM (3 years, 3 months ago)

Hi guys, Apologies if I have posted incorrectly or in the wrong place, this is my first time posting and I am a newbie to mushroom cultivation!
I have just birthed my first ever batch of shrooms (golden teachers) using the PF TEK method. My first cake to start producing has put out a mixture of regular looking golden teachers but most of them have white caps with almost no colour. I've read on other posts that it's just a gene deformity and they're ok to consume but I wanted to get confirmation. They seem otherwise healthy and they've bruised blue as you'd expect. I've included some photos.

Please tell me you know how to clone...

I can't say I do to be honest. This is my first attempt at cultivating so when they came out completely white I was confused as shit haha! Is it relatively rare to get white fruits?

It happens from time to time, but I always like to clone out my genetic mutations. Do you know how to work with agar?

I couldn't even tell you what Agar is haha! Is it easy to source?

Agar is a seaweed extract used to make agar plates. It's definitely a new learned process so I doubt you will be able to do an agar run in time to clone those fruit.

What I would do is put those in a sealed dry container in the fridge and either:

1. Cram your agar knowledge and get some plates made in the next 24 hours or so (unlikely)

-or-

2. Clone directly to grain. It's as easy as sterilizing your grain then dropping a sample of the inner stem tissue (away from contams) into the grain jar and let it ride!

If you do clone to grain, take as many samples as you can from both the bottom and top of the tissue inside the stem. Some say not to clone from bottom tissue as it has the potential to pull in genetic tissue from other nearby strains, but I always do just to be safe.

Also, cloning straight to grain will result in a pretty decent contam rate. That is pretty normal. I was able to get it down below 25% but would still lose jars regularly. Just make sure to do at least 4 samples (2 from top and 2 from bottom) to beat the numbers. THEN, after you have grown out your clone, use the grain jar to do some G2G transfers and expand out your culture.

Edit: You got this bro!

Ive seen some albino golden teachers out there. There are few people on the gram selling spore prints and cultures for them. Looks like you hit the lottery with just being lucky enough to have some right there.

Do you have pictures of the normal looking ones that grew with them?

Thanks mate! I'll make up a few jars today and get them in there  I'll have to look into agar a bit more and have some prepped for next time! One of my other cakes is pinning and it looks like it may have some completely white ones too!

I didn't take any snaps of the regular looking ones actually, I just dehydrated them and stored them straight away.

Very Cool! Agar will take your shroom game to a whole new level. Make sure to keep us posted on how it goes!

I think I see a little dark in the gills, unless it's shadow.  Those may be leucistic and not albino.  If it matters...  but I could be wrong

I love golden teachers. I eat 5-10 grams of them and it is a pretty intense rush of emotions and visuals. They have always been enjoyable. Mutations are cool. Any albino is just the same as normal potency wise. You need to make some clones of that 1000%

Good catch! I was thinking it was shadow but, at second glance, I could also be wrong. Either way, total score for Camdeli!

also listen to myc.

Research agar. Now, and for hours.

Order the sterilized dishes
parafilm
telephone agar agar
and dry light malt barley
activated carbon if you want.
all of it is cheap. and can be ordered online.
it makes the hobby more fun because you can clone and isolate. I also inoculate my jars with agar plates too. it makes them colonize sooo much faster than a syringe or print. its easy to store strains you like for years.
