Identification help please
    #26988209 - 10/16/20 10:46 AM (3 years, 3 months ago)

I found these in Southern England. I'd be grateful for any advice on what I have found - there are at least two different types - one darker brown with nipple on top and thin stem and the other more creamy in colour and with a slightly thicker stem and cap - both growing in grass.

Nothing active or edible.  Wait for a trusted identifier to correctly identify them.

Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate it.

I have now learnt a lot more about what to look for. Here are some pix of what I have picked. I believe that the small ones are liberty caps but not sure about the larger ones - they had the right general look - shape, colour and dark gills etc. but maybe not quite right. Sorry that some of my finds are rather squashed and maybe difficult to identify. The ones drying out on the paper towel I think are probably ok but I'd really appreciate some guidance on what the others are, particularly the largest, because I want to take extra care.

Thank you.

It’s very hard to identify these as they are in bad shape. I think you have a mixed batch and there might be one liberty cap hiding in there so you might be on the right track but we need better specimens to give a confident ID. Some photos of them in their habitat would also be helpful for an ID

Thank you. If you look at this picture would you say that most looked like liberty caps?

Most of the last photo look like libs, but the photo is really bad in general. Seriously put minimal effort to place them on paper with numbers.

It's taken me a while but here are some better pix. Let me know if you need any more of particular ones. I am so grateful for your help. Thank you.

Hi Insch, most of these look like P. semilanceata to me. More information regarding habitat, size, etc would be good (I think there are suggestions for ideal info to include at the top of this forum). Have you taken any spore prints or noticed any blue-bruising? R_D

Thank you. They were picked in a field on a slope near a forest but they weren't near trees. It was grassy and the grass was a reasonable length. It was quite a damp environment. The earth has quite a high clay content. There were several others picking them and they helped me with identification. They had picked in that area in previous years.

Any thoughts? I haven't taken spore prints of these. Do they all look safe?

Thanks

They're definitely look alikes. They lack of blueing, wrong flesh tone. They're close though, i probably would have made the same mistake if the lighting was bad. Happy hunting

I know some of my earlier ones were lookalikes but the more recent numbered ones too? I thought they were genuine?
