Habitat: Found near a walking path, growing on an unknown type of stump near other hardwood deciduous trees. Small clusters and a couple solitary. Central Ohio, US
Gills: rusty yellow, darkening with age / damage, not quite attached, gills
Stem: 5-8 cm long, 1cm thick, same or very similar coloration to cap, fibrous, solid stem, slight to no thickness variation, a bit thicker at base, yellow throughout flesh
Cap: 5 cm across for both, yellow with a bit of orange, texture slightly scaly, dry, lighter yellow flesh in cap
Spore print color: Rusty orange-brown
pics of spore swab, with and without flash. Produced enough spores to be obvious after touching gills

Bruising: bruises a darker rusty brown, very slight bluish green tinge with age but pretty subtle (could be wishful thinking
Other information: Smells a bit anisey, smells kinda "good".
I suspect it could also be a galerina marginata mushroom, since everything I've looked at online makes the two seem nearly indistinguishable. I didn't see any younger specimens?
I've ordered a microscope, so once I get that I can try to get some good microscope pictures.

Kick ass! I almost psyched myself out thinking it could be a galerina :P

Update: taste test checks out! Took a tiny nibble of the cap, it's very bitter What a blessing from nature. I doubt there's enough here to get threshold effects but still feeling stoked to have found them.
Thanks for the ID!

I think you’ve got more than enough for threshold there - all 4 might take you to the floor as they appear pretty big G

I only snagged two of them, but I might go back and look for more / see if they're still kickin' it. I kinda want to try and spread around more of those spores in the area to see if more pop up next year.
