Dear forum,
I got this beauty not long ago from a nursery, where it was sitting in the shade and etoliating.. i was told that it needs sun to grow properly.
i put it outside in morning sun from 8:30 to 11:30, and then its in the shade...
after only two days i noticed it's shriveled on the top and is yellowing on the sun side... also noticed small black spots ?
what's happening to it, and why is it shriveled up like this?
my other cacti, much smaller than this seem to be thriving...
would really appreciate the advise as i am new to this.

i am in a climate where there is no winter, it's hot in winter and very hot in summer, so this is like 3 hours of sunlight that did this.
what can be done to prevent etoliation and not hurt the cactus ?
Also i wonder,
if the sun is stronger, does that mean it needs less hours sunlight compared to an average sun to grow healthy?
English is not my first language, so i hope i am making sense here,
like for example if a cactus needs 8 hours of sunlight in europe to grow very healthy, does that mean in a climate with stronger sun it will give same growth results with less sunlight just because the sun seems to be stronger/ have more UV ?

Is it humid where you live? As in, is it tropical?
They can shrivel/ shrink a bit when dehydrated. The colour can change depending on sun exposure so don't stress too much about that. However if you are in a hot and humid location the humidity can damage the plant. Columnar cacti do not do well with humidity such as tropical areas.
That is my understanding anyway.

in summer it gets very humid, but in winter it's fine... i have monstrose and small trichocereus's that are outside all day and they are doing find, this guy is a giant, and all this happened to him from 2 days of being outside.

I've had columnar cacti become damaged from just putting them in a greenhouse for a couple days. Damage caused by too much humidity. Which looked very similar to what your photo's show. And I've heard of people in tropical areas say they have to grow them indoors in the 'wet season'.
Might have been an acclimatization issue too. The nursery may have offered a different environment for that cactus, i.e in the shade, maybe indoors?
I have only been collecting cacti for a short time and live in a very different environment, sorry i can not help you further. But i don't believe it looks diseased, more likely heat or humidity stress?
I'm sure someone else will chime in with more experience.
https://cactiguide.com/forum/ is usually very good with cacti advice.
Your cactus still looks healthy.

My Trichcereus gets damage like that after it has rained and waterdrops is on the cactus when the sun is returning with strong light. Its like the waterdrops works like a magnifying glass focusing the sunlight and making damage that looks like that. If i wipe off the waterdrops it doesnt happen so im quite sure it must be the sunlight+waterdrops that damages the cacti and it looks like that.
