These are the ones I got and they seem like they're performing as intended. I'm just keeping am eye on them for now and if it looks like they're gonna dry out too soon, I'll put em in a mono RH in my house has been 50%-70% and there's always lots of condensation on the walls of the tubs. The edges are flat and they seem like they'd dub well using binder clips if needed.

Those are these:

Only differences I can see are the label style and lid color.
The other shoe box is p/n 1851. Those have the rounded top edge that is a lot harder to dub. The whole tub profile is more rounded too. They seem to be older or discontinued as they are not listed on the website anymore and I haven't seen any in stores since probably last year edit: today. Not that I'd want any...

I donβt want to be drilling any holes in any monos or complicate things more by adding things. How do you fruit these by themselves? Do you just leave the lid snapped on the entire time? And then when knots start to form loosen the lid or turn it upside down? Or still leave it snapped all the way through pinning and then when pins start to form then flip the lid?
Latched shoeboxes were so much more convenient and simple.

I really don't think you'll have much of an issue with drying out if you fruit with the lid snapped on or not. But that's just me.
I've done this countless times with no issues. If you do have an issue, just unsnap the lid for more FAE, or snap it for more moisture.
I tend to keep the lid snapped on and if I see my mushrooms growing long and thin or getting fuzzy feet I unsnap it and it solves the problem. It will be different for you depending on your climate, but you can switch between the two to adjust as needed.
I think either way you will get decent shrooms as a snapped lid doesn't cut enough FAE to destroy your grow. The first flush just might be a bit thin is all but you can adjust accordingly from there.
Putting them in a mono works great if you have spare monos sitting around, but then why not just fruit the mono and shoeboxes separately on their own? It certainly works, but isn't necessary if you ask me.

So I keep the lid snapped on all through colonization and fruiting until the mushrooms are hitting the top? Only when the mushrooms are hitting the lid do I then unsnap it?
Keeping the lid snapped on the whole time through the process still provides adequate FAE?

In my experience yes.
It depends somewhat on the air current in your room though - if you need to unsnap it for an FAE boost you can do so. I'd start with that assumption and if they grow long & skinny/with fuzzy feet, switch to unsnapping the lid when the pinset forms.

Just imagine the snap-down at the end of either side of the new one to be the same as latching/unlatching.
You're worrying way too much. They just want to grow.

lol weβve been through this before he just has a habit of obsessing over the details. The first aa+ grow he ran was great they were some of the biggest shoebox shrooms Iβve seen.
Psycho just for fun you should make a shoebox up, snap the lid and literally not touch it for two weeks. Just fully detach yourself from the outcome. I think itβll help you a lot to see what happens.
Keep reminding yourself these arenβt delicate life forms. Thereβs been a couple times now where I went to use an old tub and found mushrooms growing from a marble sized piece of sub that stuck to the side from the last grow, or I got a few seeds under the liner while mixing and found them fruiting when I took the sub out to harvest.
Cubes really are the weeds of the active mushroom world.

That plate looks gnarly. I put a bunch of plates in the back of the fridge about 3 weeks ago. Decided to check on em today and they're all frozen.
I pulled one out and put it on a shelf. We'll see if it decides to grow out some more or if they're all dead.

I had this exact thing happen to me about a month ago. In my case, it all died except in the very center, and it just grew out from there. The only problem was there was so much water, I guess the freeze pulled all the moisture from the agar. It was like a thin agar puck floating over water. It made it more difficult to get a transfer out, but I got it done and saved (almost) all the cultures. I only lost my natalensis cultures, RIP.

Yes, do this. This is basically how I do all my shoeboxes, and I have been doing a ton as of late.

I know man, I'm sorry I can't help it, it's because I was using the latch ones before so I could provide FAE, don't know the details to working with this kind of box, but you're right... I'm obsessing over stupid details!
This is my third attempt at RW, took a T2 agar cut to grain, but I don't know if it's me or it just colonizes slow as shit?!?! I'm worried I may of fucked it up by shaking it too early or something, but it was a clean culture, it's real dense and thick but seems to be slow moving.
I had a PESA MS syringe that I was just messing around with and knocked up a few jars... I think I may of gotten lucky with this one, it looks pretty nice and clean, good culture. That's coming up and due for a shake tomorrow and seems to be powering over RW...?
Then I decided shit I should get some more shoeboxes, and go to the stores to find out shoeboxes are almost all gone around here, entire fucking storage is gone! Just like there's a shortage on mason jars and are all gone!!! Anyway, I always got the latch ones, but I ended up with the silver topped plain ones, same exact thing as the white lids.

Both styles work similarly. The lack of a good seal (even on the latch lids) holds condensation/humidity and allows FAE. You'll have to judge the surface conditions and determine whether it's getting too much FAE requiring a misting here and there or not enough FAE. If it's not enough, unsnap the lid. If its still not enough, turn the lid upside down. Still not enough? Slide the lid over just a hair and allow a larger gap.

If it's too much FAE then unsnap the lid? Or did you mean something else...? Not sure I follow in your response or I'm getting confused.

No, sorry about that. I was in bed, falling asleep when I wrote that. I meant to say not enough FAE. I edited the post. My apologies.
