No they do not. I believe they are secondary or even tertiary decomposers. The weilii mycelium needs to have its nutrient source to be already broken down by a primary decomposer before it is able to process it. This is all speculation but I feel like it is correct. This is why it is very difficult to grow these in an indoor situation. Having the right combo of predecomposed fibrous woody material with clay in an indoor setup without contam seems almost impossible.

Actually they're quite easy to fruit indoors FS. It's worth playing around with different genetic lines to find ones that work well, as with any species. They don't need clay or sand as many seem to believe. Setting them up outdoors may be challenging because many other species also thrive on the same easily digestible food. At least with traditional woodlovers there is a fairly low number of other species that will out compete them for their food source.

I might have missed it, but I haven't seen anyone produce decent yields cultivating these indoors.

Fairly easily? I have only seen I think two people on the forum successfully grow them indoors. Both only had a few mushrooms at a time for each flush. I really don’t think it’s an easy task. I believe an outdoor grow would be much easier as there is more room for the mycelium and contaminants to grow along side each other instead of competing within the same tub.

Nah theres been more alot more than just two. Rumblestrip included im pretty sure. They do take a lot longer to fruit than other psilocybes though.
Either way I'd still tend to agree outside is probably the better route esp for us georgians.

I've grown them indoors on only grain and coir more than a few times. The problem isn't getting them to fruit or contamination, it's how long it takes to get fruit and getting a decent yield. When you grow outdoors you are at the mercy of the environment: slugs, weather, and random animals become a risk. If you're thinking of cultivation why not do both?

Also I've started thinking of weilii as more of a grass lover instead of a woodlover. Anytime I tried to make a substrate that got fancy (pine shavings/straw, grass seed) it never performed as well as more basic substrates. I think sand might be a good additive but I haven't tried it yet.

Some caerulescens cult:

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24482919
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/10893108

There was a recent one that used sand that inspired me but I can't find it...

Ah man those looks so wild grown indoors.

I believe I prefer outdoor grows because it gives me a peace of mind that I do not have to worry about getting in trouble. They grow naturally here so there is no way I could get in any sort of trouble for it. I just think it’s even more interesting to see them grow in the wild.  I do believe they are more of a dead grass/briar/dead tall weeds lover more than anything else. That is why I mixed in those components and not any hardwood. We will see how it goes. I have already done one outdoor grow with just LC in a recently graded and sodded environment. I actually just picked a lone mushroom from that patch. I wonder if the patch will get bigger because I am only getting small mushrooms at a time and no larger flushes yet.

Another one of ghosty’s grand babies.

So I may have technically went over the border into SC for these but.... Can I still post it here?

I should've put something next to them to show scale, they're nice sized.

+1
Definitely agree. If it was any other mushroom it might be questionable but since they grow almost solely in GA then it’s more acceptable since you’re our neighbor.

Aww, I feel so accepted and validated by y'all. We're connected by the Earth's red-ass skin, and barely separated by a a few old mountains. I've been overlooking most of these bad boys for years(because I didn't see immediate and obvious bruising), not anymore haha :tongue2:.

Everyone ok with me posting AL finds? There's barely any active members from my state anyway.. my AL threads die quickly. I'm roughly 60 miles from the GA border  :hi:
