syringe filter in lc setup

hi all I've seen lots of posts using a syringe filter in lc jars but no one ever mentions what happens if the filter gets wet esp from all the steam in a pc. they don't filter air anymore ..its like trying to suck air in with a cap on the tip. I always add my filter after I pc the jar. any thoughts on this? thx

How would one go about installing a filter..post sterilization!?
What material filter are you using? I've had no issues like this and I've been using the .22 Nylon.

The liquid evaporates well before the mycelium need air via the port. In addition, many of the SF's you buy, and indeed the ones I buy, are hydrophobic.
Getting wet in the PC isn't a big deal in either case in my experience (although always put foil over it to not alter the moisture content of the contents too much).

I know that when I take a filter thats even hydrophobic and use it to filter sterilize some liquid even if I wait a few weeks the filter won't let air thru. peat moss is hydrophobic but once you wet it, it becomes hydrophilic not sure thats a valid analogy. its sounds like if no one has an issue with the steam getting up into the filter, I'll just keep it on when pcing it. probably over thinking this....thx

Not a terrible analogy, I get the gist of it. Makes sense, however I haven't noticed an issue traced back to the filters..yet. But,also, I only use them 2-3pc cycles before tossing as well.

guess it would only be an issue if the filling on the syringes wasn't done in a sterile area, assuming the jars aren't totally airtight

I stopped using the syringe filters after 7 jars had to get thrown out. Switched to a tyvek sticker that gets applied to inside of lid. They work amazing. Have had no problems with those. Got em on amazon i believe

I usually have no filters, if your jar is not too full then there is plenty of air in it for an LC to develop enough to be used.
My current LC bottles are about half full, I usually use less.
