4 Mushroom ID Request
    #26985028 - 10/14/20 12:18 PM (3 years, 3 months ago)

Post #1:

Mushroom #1

Habitat:
Where does it grow? Eg. woods, pasture, state, province, country, altitude, etc. What does it grow on? Eg. soil, dung, wood (dead, living, what kind of wood?), etc.
Growing on dead fallen tree in a dry creek bed in a deciduous forest. Southwestern Ohio near the Ohio River.
Gills:
Color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc.
White to light tan. I think they are slightly attached to the stem. They seem pretty close together but I am very new to this.

Stem:
Length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc.
2.5-4cm in length, white near cap, blue below the cap, then changing to purpleish/blue hued which continues down to the base, no ring.
Cap:
Diameter, color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc.
1-4cm in Diameter, texture is smooth and relatively tough, concave with a smooth curve. Light brown all around except a slightly darker color in the center.
Spore print color:
rusty red

Bruising:
Color that the mushroom bruises, if any.
I bruised 2 specimens and I can only see a slight darkening of color in the effected area. The stems might have bruised before I got to them which would explain the blue color but I couldn't get them to change colors after bruising, but I didn't wait more than 1 minute.
Other information:
Scent of the mushroom, anything else you think is important, large close-up pictures showing stem, cap and gills.
The scent is earthy and pleasant, indiscernible for me from the mushrooms I buy at the store.

Mushroom #2

Habitat:Growing on a mostly rotted dead fallen tree over some naturally created wood chips in a deciduous forest. Southwestern Ohio near the Ohio River.

Gills: Tightly packed and stretch from the outside of the cap to the volva. Light tan and amber on the very edges.

Stem: No Stem

Spore Print:White

Scent:It smells slightly sharper than #1 I'm not really sure.

Bruise Color: Changes darker brown on the gills

Cap: Slightly darker brown on the inside 75%. Feels dry and lightly furry? outside edge is lighter tan to yellow and deep smooth amber ring on the very edges.

Pictures:

Mushroom #3

Habitat: The shady side of a mostly broken down tree stump, growing off the side in clusters. Southwestern Ohio near the Ohio River

Pores:
It does not have any gills, but on the white part of the bottom it has tiny holes which I assume are pores.
Stem:
This mushroom has no stem and grew directly off of a tree stump.
Scent:This mushroom has a very faint earthy smell

Bruise: Bruises change the white to light brown immediately and no change on the darker top.

Cap: top side is white and dark brown, getting darker from the edges to the foot which is almost black on the biggest specimen, white to to brown gradient on smaller specimens. Picture shows example of the caps release clear and red liquid.

Mushroom #4

Habitat:Growing off of a fallen tree in a deciduous forest. Southwestern Ohio near the Ohio River.

Gills: There are no gills or pores, I think these are younger pear shaped puff balls.

Cap: light brown with tiny dark brown warts, marshmallow white on the inside

Stem:I'm not sure if it is a very thick stem or the cap just connects directly to the tree.

Scent: very very faint earthy smell.

Bruise Color: No change in color that I could see.

You're very welcome.  #1 is a group of species rarely documented. Glad you got out there and photographed it.  Very cool!
