Oyster metabolites or contamination
    #26982837 - 10/13/20 07:07 AM (3 years, 3 months ago)

I have two oyster mushroom bags that I think has excess water, metabolites, and potential contamination.

They were prepared with LC to agar to LI to rye berries. The substrate is pasteurized sawdust (no supplements). Both bags smell of oyster mycellium through the filter patch.

The first bag has excessive metabolites.

The second bag has pooling water. I think the sawdust was prepped on the wet side and there has been excessive condensation. Maybe I can salvage this one?

Thanks. This is more peace of mind before I toss the bags.

I have those transparent-slightly-yellow pockets of liquid here and there all the time, especially after first flush. I fruit it anyway and it does not smell bad at all.

I always just drain that stuff out if it happens.  Used to happen all the time when I did buckets till I got the moisture content right.

Thanks bogdancev and Forrester. I cut open the bags and they smell fine. Poured out the extra liquid and put them to fruiting.

Thanks SHROOMSISAY01 for the link. Very informative. My water content was definitely off.
