Can most most saprobic species be relatively easily cultivated?
    #26981225 - 10/12/20 10:09 AM (3 years, 3 months ago)

Question is all in the title. Excuse me if this is a dumb noob question.

I just wonder about some saprobic species like Parasol mushrooms that seem to grow everywhere in relatively poor soil but I've never heard of anybody cultivating them. It got me thinking because I know Shaggy Manes, which seem very similar (and taste similar) can be cultivated without much fuss, people just don't seem to do it.

I know the mycorrhizal species are notoriously hard if not impossible.

P.S. I have an ID request in the hunting forum that is not getting much love. I guess because most posters that frequent that forum are mainly interested in the ones that bruise blue. If there's any gourmet/medicinal experts here that could possibly help with some wild IDs, please take a look.

It's hard to say most, but a lot can, and just really haven't been tried.

The question often is motive (and how much time you have on your hands lol).  But a lot of folks try for fun, and quite often succeed.

Me and Jeff grew Piptoporus betulinis (now Fomitopsis betulina) just for fun once.  Was there a point?  Not really, they grow all over the place.  But it was fun.

A link with a pic

If you wanna see some cool grows, search some of Jeff's posts.  I wish he was still around!

Have some medicinal mushrooms and want to get the most out of them?  Try this double extraction method.
