I added this piece of inner stem to some agar and It has a lot of fuzzy myc around it but does not look like it is colonizing the agar, as you can see there is two layers so I’m guessing the agar and the brf I mixed with it have separated? The mixture is pretty stiff this my first time doing agar so any advice would be really appreciated I used agar, brf, and water mixture for these jars

Looks fine, good growth. Flip the jars upside down after a day or two so the condensation and possible cantams sit in the lid not the agar.
Use malt extract next time instead of BRF

Do most grocery stores carry malt extract I have never heard of it before,I saw someone had used brf so I just substituted it for that

it sounds like and looks like some bunk agar you should not have 2 layers the fuzziness is called rhizomorhic growth and that's good but it could also be bacteria. get some new agar and start over but keep watch what happens to that first batch for scientific purposes

According, a vendor I bought agar from, the stiffer the better. Just like my pops says.

I’ve had agar separate too when using BRF or other stuff that’s harder to completely dissolve like dog food or chunky grain water but it works fine. Malt extract is great cause it dissolves pretty easily and can be found pretty easily online, but BRF also works
How long ago did you inoculate that plate? Wait until the myc starts to crawl across the agar then transfer a tiny piece to a new plate

It’s been about 5 days, the other jars I inoculated with some spore prints those have no sign of growth at all so far. Yeah I hope that fuzzy stuff ain’t bacteria that would suck

5 days is definitely not that long when waiting for spores to germinate. Don’t give up hope yet!
In my experience, bacteria looks more “greasy” than anything else. If there is fuzzy looking stuff coming off a fungal tissue sample, it’s probably fungal mycelium. Not saying there isn’t any bacteria, mold, or anything else hiding in that mycelium, but you will have to wait for it to grow out more to determine that.

Nah you wanna leave them right side up. You want the contams on your agar so you can see them and transfer away from them.
