Dunking Cakes before Preparing Shoebox?
    #26980073 - 10/11/20 02:03 PM (3 years, 4 months ago)

Is it bad to dunk the cakes before mixing them with the coir for the shoebox? Also if I have just an inch of depth for the coir/spawn mixtrue, is that too shallow?

I've read, you don't wait for consolidation and you don't dunk
2- 4 inches is normal in a big mono. Dunno about shoe boxes probably similar

if they is some BRF cakes you certainly do consolidate after 100%.

Best thang you can do is pasteurize the coir at slight field capacity and it'll moisturize the spawn capeche?

YES YOU CAN make a 2 inch sub depth rule of thumb is a 1 to 4 ratio max.  1 part spawn 3 parts coir #1 recommended by Gump.

Don't wait a full week for them to consolidate when doing bulk with them. 24 hrs after full visible colonization and crumble/grate/mix into your bulk sub and good to go.  Zero need to dunk.  I wouldn't recommend just 1" btw.  It'll dry out fast AF and have you babysitting/misting which is a great way for new growers to fuck up a tub.  At LEAST 2 would be better and would help maintain surface conditions but 3-4 is optimal.
