Troubles with agar

Hi all.
I've been struggling with agar for a while. I use a SAB, clean/sterile technique. I've tried pastey plates and standard agar recipes. I've been coloring the agar green and leave the plates for about 2 weeks at room temperature to make sure there aren't contains before I use them.
The issue I've been having is after I transfer a clone or grain or a piece of agar after MS syringe on agar, as the mycelium grows, when I look at the plate from the bottom, there is a yellowish-brown discoloration, not visible from the top of the plate. I've been assuming it's contains but is there any possibility the discoloration is due to metabolites? The color looks similar to when I have metabolites visible in my grain jars.
Sorry, no pictures now (just made some transfers today), but I'll post some when these next transfer inevitably show the same discoloration.
Thoughts?

It's possible that the food color is getting broken down and changing color. I tried coloring some of my agar blue and the myc causes it to turn pale pink. The color also made it harder to see contam colonies from the bottom so I don't bother with food color.

OP: check out the agar envy thread. Lot's of info in there

When I color my plates, they always change colors where the mycelium has consumed the sugar(s) and some of the other dye components. It's a measure of how active the mycelium is feeding in a way. Hopefully that's what your pictures will show.
I noticed when I switched from BRF agar to LME agar, the plates got MUCH clearer and didn't have the sediment/opaqueness in the agar to deal with which made it easier to spot contams on - food for thought.
But even using color and LME, I still hold every recipient plate up to a 40w lamp and look for any hidden growth before I transfer to them.

It is true that some color also made it harder to seecolonies from the bottom so dont use food color anymore.
