That's a great idea!

What do you do with your LCs now?

I’ve been using needles and SHIPs lately. If I go back to bags I will go back to the pour LC’s for sure.

In my opinion, LC and G2G are pretty comparable. The only thing that i can say  that makes LC less work is how many gallons and gallons of LC can be made with one clean plate. If one were so inclined and good enough at sterile work, they could make enough LC in one sitting, out of one plate to grow hundreds and hundreds of pounds of rainbows. The same cannot be said about g2g.

I think starting the stirring once you see the small fragment fuzz up is fine.  It's not that you can really kill them once they are started - at least not through spinning.  It's more to do with that critical transition from a tiny scrape off an agar plate to the LC I think.  That period of time is stressful.  I think 1.5 days is usually plenty to see the piece fuzz up.  And once it does, you are good to go.

I've mostly used 500ml LCs lately, but in the past I always used 750ml with no problem.  I'm using 140ml injections for a 7-pound spawn bag (everything is injection-based because I HATE doing stuff in still air boxes and don't have a flow hood), so even 500ml is way more than I usually need since I almost never go over one 2-bag loading of the AA921.  If the LC is good, the bag finishes in 5 to 8 days almost always, and I don't see the point of more or less LC really.  I like to have an extra syringe ready, though, in case there is an issue and I have to start the injections over, and there are injection problems sometimes because the syringes don't last forever.  A 25 to 50 times in the cooker, and a 140ml syringe can start to leak as the rubber plunger deforms eventually.

I recently found 5 140ml syringes on eBay for $8 delivered no less.  But the stainless steel 12-gauge 3" needles I use are harder to find and rare.  Once you find even one, though, it'll last you a lifetime because they never go bad.  As usual with just about anything, I have many extra, but I tend to give things away over the years when I'll train someone on LCs.  It's always fun to do that since most of them come from spawning backgrounds and have no idea the kind of bulk you can do with an LC direct to bulk - if you know what you are doing that is.  They think it's a glorified PF Tek or something usually, so they sure are in for a big surprise when that first one-to-two-foot-high pile of mushrooms pulls off.

Tripdawg420, I'm going to be serious for a minute because you sound serious now.  Look, grow the mushrooms the way that works for you.  I have a good friend on Shroomery (jcm4620) that grows using spawn and g2g transfers.  His grows are great, and I don't think he would necessarily benefit switching to LCs, although I have brought it up before to him.

We tend to like the way we've had success growing, and for me, that was LCs because I graduated from PF Tek to LCs.  That doesn't mean it couldn't have gone differently if I had tried spawning and g2g and found it great.  I've made my points over and over with LCs, but here they are again: LCs with injection-based techniques allow you to not use still air boxes (SAB) and flow hoods as often.  You still need one, of course, because spores usually don't do so well direct to an LC (agar plates are often needed), but you don't need to do as much work in one.  I also like it because it's easy.  g2g isn't all that much harder as long as you have a nice big SAB or flow hood, but I'm set up for the LCs now.

Trying to argue with one with best is like arguing which color hair is best or something.  Some dudes like blonds, some redheads, some brunettes, and some--like me--don't really give a crap because they all can be great or suck depending on the person.  It's just all about preferences, and for everything I like about LCs, I am sure someone else can find fault in.  Lots of people seem to have trouble keeping their LCs clean, for example.  I don't know why because I've never really had that problem, but they do.  And to them an LC isn't worth the trouble.  And that's fine.  Use what works for you.

yep. But i rarely use it anymore. Maybe I'll bust her out and give her another shot. Free pouring is just so much less hassle.
