The VIDEO BASED General Cultivation Thread!
(Get some help, share your knowledge, or just show off!) Got a camera? Switch from picture mode to video mode and as a community let's help each other more effectively step our game up!
This thread is for any, and all things mush cult related where you can post a video of your "XYZ" process in action for people to view and give you feedback, advice, tips and tricks, or to simply ask questions about the process you demonstrated for their own cultivation education.
Got a cool snazzy process you want to share? Shoot that shit!
Got a new setup you want to give a detailed video walkthrough of? Great! That works here too!
Got a new tool you want to show in action? Post that vid brother!
Got an issue you want to troubleshoot? Get it up there in video format and help others help you!
Whatever it is...
Visual learners rejoice!
Anybody can participate in this thread, but the thread rules/guidelines are as follows:
1. If you are posting in this thread for feedback, input, or to ask questions about on your "xyz" technique, to ask for any help / troubley shooting, or simply to show us the cool way you do something, then you MUST post a video for people to reference. Pictorials can be nice, but video is king here. There are plenty of threads to post questions, or to show people shit that doesn't have a video to go with it. We want this thread to be a visual learners' paradise. Thanks!
2. If you don't have a video to go with your post, please keep your participation in the thread limited to participating in the discussion about the videos other people have posted whether it be to offer critiques / advice, add comments / ideas, or to ask questions about the technique the poster is demonstrating in the video.
Keeping the thread dedicated to talking about / working through the video examples people upload, will make this a visual learning powerhouse thread that all can reap the benefits of, noobs and seasoned vets alike. This thread could really inspire a lot of advancements in people's cult game for those posting their "critique my technique" videos, for those offering input / advice, and for lurkers alike.
Note: Here are instructions on how to embed a video in your post.

I'll kick it off with this stupid simple DIY magnetic stirrer that anybody can improvise with zero technical abilities.

Your videos can literally be anything cult related. For instance Doctor Mario posted this in another thread that inspired this current one:
Quote:
Doctor Mario said: I believe that there's always room to improve and sometimes it's easier to see while looking from the outside in... Cultivators with great experience are always trying to diagnose what exactly went wrong with another person's grow and help them succeed but lets be honest, pictures can only show so much.
I normally have two or three out of 20 plates contam while pouring and another two or three while transferring (video to come). Making this video made me realize that I occasionally get shaky hands. Besides that, is there anything else that I'm doing subpar?
What isn't shown is everything before the video. What I did prior was: lay a wet towel (soapy water) down on the table, and spray soapy water on the inside of the SAB. Next, I sprayed a few mists of the same soapy water into the air of the SAB. After a few minutes, I took a few stacks of blank petri dishes, sprayed them with ISO and carefully put them in position on the towel. Afterwards, I sprayed a new sleeve of petris with ISO, moved it into the SAB and carefully opened the sleeve and placed the stacks ontop of the blank dishes. Finally, I sprayed a few more mists of soapy water into the air of the SAB and went to work. Heres the video. What can I do better next time?
br />
Shout out to Doctor Mario for getting the ball rolling!

Thanks man!
I am really looking forward to seeing everything people throw up here, and the productive dialogue that will ensue with so much video material to reference.
I think this thread will bear a lot of fruit for a lot of people eventually.
It's an awesome community we have here.
Again, a big thanks to Doctor Mario for inspiring the thread!

Can't wait to see some of the stuff people kick out on here. Been thinking about ways to record good video in my SAB: everything from a gasketed lens hole offset for my DSLR to something to suspend my phone from (although the video quality of the phone is lame AF). Don't know how the shit people manage recording in the SAB. Focusing through the lid/top makes for some very unsatisfactory footage...

I know. I was trying to do it today for this thread while I did my transfers, but couldn't get it to look good enough. So, I just had to carry on working. I was thinking through different options for clear viewfinder modifications for the sab / camera setup as well. I thought maybe I'd cut a hole in the top, silicone some plexiglass in it's place, and set my camera in a birds eye view like that.
Although I am a month or so from having flow...
I might still do it though. We'll see. Maybe I'll hit the hardware store this week.

Just a heads up - a lot of the totes we make SABs out of (at least the Sterilite ones) are made of polypropylene. I discovered the hard way that nothing wants to stick to it very well. If you put your window in the top of your SAB, then this won't matter much because gravity will be holding the plexiglass down on the top of the box. However, if you try to mount it to the side, it might very well matter.
When I got my tote to make my SAB, I very carefully checked both sides to see if there were any scratches I wanted to avoid before cutting my armholes. What I forgot to do was look through the sides to check for any distortions in the plastic itself (first mistake). And wouldn't you know it, the side I chose to put my armholes in turned out to have a major distortion right down the middle of it - directly where I have to look through it. Which I didn't discover until I was putting my arms through my freshly cut armholes. I got completely fed up having to tilt my head to one side or the other to see around the distortion the first time I spent an hour working in it and decided to put a window in it rather than just getting a new $20 tote (second mistake). Besides, the plastic wasn't exactly transparent to begin with, more translucent at best.
So, I go get a 12"x24" piece of polycarbonate (Lexan, it's clearer, tougher, and a little more expensive than plexiglass, but also easier to scratch) and some silicone adhesive caulk, and get to work cutting out the window and roughing up the perimeter for adhesion. I then caulk the polycarbonate in place and let it cure 24 hours. The next day, I'm as happy as a pig in slop with my new super-clear window. I start cleaning up the SAB from all the construction, and as I'm doing so, the new window pops right off! The silicone hadn't stuck to the polycarbonate at all, despite my roughing it up with sandpaper. That's when I started doing research (third mistake - do your research before you start cutting stuff) and learned that polypropylene has "low surface energy" and most adhesives won't stick to it.
So, after many hours of reading online, I finally discovered that Loctite makes a product specifically intended for gluing difficult plastics like polypropylene and polyethylene. It's called "Plastics Bonding System", and it's basically a heptane primer that preps the polypropylene so the cyanoacrylate (super glue) will stick to it. I got it at Home Depot (same place I got the Lexan), it wasn't too expensive, less than $4 I think. There's also apparently a hot glue stick made for polypropylene, but I don't have a hot glue gun so don't know anything about that.
My advice would be to not rough up the surface your gluing to, just use the primer on both surfaces, allow it to dry, then apply the glue. Then carefully mate the two surfaces. One word of warning: You have less than two seconds to make any adjustments if you don't get it exactly where you want it the first time. It bonds virtually instantaneously. It's also very thin (it's somewhere between regular superglue and gel) so it won't fill gaps. I wound up using an acrylic caulk (sticks somewhat better than silicone but not much) I already had to seal the gaps around my window so water couldn't settle in the crevice between the window and the SAB. But it's the superglue doing the holding.
Anyway, this picture was taken earlier tonight through the front of my SAB:

As you can see, it's well worth the effort to put in the window if you want to take pictures through it! Not to mention looking through it and actually being able to see details, rather than hazy, milky outlines.

I didn't quote the whole thing but tanks for the info brother! I know that took a little time to write lol, I think if I do it I will do the top down gravity held position.
I am curious who will be the first person to upload the next video, and what it will be about. Set that camera up boys! (And girls)

Regular PE really benefit from a thick jiffy mix type casing. Obviously cats are getting away with just a top layer and not getting blobs, but peat really helps with knot formation and the thickness away from the nute source keeps blobbing down Ime/imo.. Should work at any sized fc too.. these are glad containers each with 1/2 qrt spawn and thick jiffy casings

thatโs for regular PE, But like aka said, those look like homestead Visually.
EDIT: Also, I see youโre mixing with your hand.. for a small amount like that, I suggest getting 1-2 gallon ziplocks and put your spawn and bulk in that and leave a bit of air in there and shake the hell out of it, it distributes the spawn extremely well. I was amazed at how fast and thorough it was and it can help with even pin sets too since it colonizes nice and even. Bags can be rinsed out and reused many times

IMO (and take that with a grain of salt, Iโve only grown the mak a handful of times) you can get canopies with mak but they really seem to not like high spawn ratios. This tub was 3 quarts spawn to a bucket of coir verm.

Theres some mak canopying
I agree with pasty on the low spawn ratio.
Also, when I make shoe boxes I put in the spawn and sub, put the lid on and shake the box to mix. Super fast and easy.

This is after unwrapping a stack of five plates from Sept 10.
So...I 1. Got another YT account with a Funny Name only for this 2. Got out an old Gropro PITA out. 3. Published in YT, select "Unlisted", then there are no visible videos 4. Copy link and paste here, embed, with a size.
