Hey friends,
I’m looking for some feedback on my upcoming grow plans and some help with a few questions. This will be my second ever grow, with my first being cubes using PF Tek + SGFC set up. My yield was extremely low, but I learned a lot from it and have done hundreds of hours of research since. I think I’m ready for my next attempt, but I’m not sure if my plan and expectations for myself and this grow are realistic or absolute ridiculous. I plan on starting this process with MS cube syringes (some type of PE, second is still TBD) and a spore print purchased from a trusted/sponsored vendor.
My grow plan consists of step/stage of cultivation and the core teks I plan to use (and strictly follow) in that step.
Before you read any further, I know I’m not going about this the most effective way. I know brf to bulk isn’t the greatest use of time and resources. I know I should really just start from agar and get my technique down. This grow plan is intended to help me learn as much as I can about multiple teks and bring me joy and satisfaction in the process. That being said, I’m open to all ideas and criticisms!
Sorry for the poor formatting... I tried my very best, I swear lol.
TLDR:
Grow plans: BRF cakes --> monos --> spore prints/cloning on agar --> grains (oats and wheat) --> monos
Questions: Spawn to sub ratio for grated brf + coir? Dunk cakes and grains before spawning? Should I case my monos? Should I use artificial light for fruiting? How to dunk monos between flushes? Any merit in brf to grain?

1. With BRF cakes, do I still need the same
ratio of spawn to sub as with whole grains? I’ve read a few posts saying that grated brf cakes go a lot further than grains.
2. Should I
dunk my colonized brf cakes and grains (oat and wheat) before spawning to bulk?
Frank’s Colonized Grain Dunk:
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17616982/page/13. Because of available space and inconvenient air vent placement, I’m concerned about my monos drying out too fast. I’m still a noob a haven’t quite gotten the feel for proper surface moisture yet. I’m thinking of
casing both tubs for both the BRF and grain runs. Do you think using a casing would be beneficial in my case, and if so, what do you recommend as casing?
4. The natural
lighting in my grow space is limited to moderate. There is only one medium sized (south facing, I think?) window that is partially shaded by a tree. The days are also getting shorter and cloudier here, and most of the bright light the window gets is in the late afternoon, which I’m assuming will limit the amount of light as well. I know light isn’t the most important factor, but in this case would you recommend investing in some artificial lighting? Any recommendations for how to do that on the cheap?
5. Do
monos need to be
dunked after flushes? If so, what dunk method would you recommend?
6. I found a tek by Eatyualive for
brf cakes to grain. I’m assuming there is a high risk of contam, but what do you think about messing around and trying a jar or two of P2G (would fruit separate, if at all)? Total waste of time and money, or worth a little experimenting.
