I googled it crimped means they are steamesd to soften them slightly and then slightly rolled, but not fully flat. Breaks them open a bit and makes them easier to chew for horses. I could imagine this creates problems with them breaking open and sticking together more, so shaking is tougher, but I would be curious for you to try it out, I could also imagine it could work. Since I switched to one step soak and pc Ive also been dealing and tolerating a lot more the large swollen and burst grains. But for me the most important thing is not texture but freedom of contam which I ensure more through clean transfer and agar work. I can break em up easily with my hands once I spawn to coir anyway. A pinch (half a teaspoon or even less) of gypsum per jar also helps and, but less so, pre soaking for 12h or so.

Also interested to the other responder, why did you stop oats? Heard a lot about its virtues, particularly its good price for same performance.

i think you'll run into mush that's really hard for the myc to eat through and really hard/ impossible to shake. But i've never tried them.

Polarity, i quit using oats because i don't like the way myc looks on them. In my opinion it's a lot harder to tell if the jar is clean. I also found that i can get whole wheat for the same price. I like it a lot better.

I haven't used them either, but they look to me like they'll be fine. You've already opened them, so process a few jar's worth and see how it goes.

I'm a little curious about the labeling because "recleaned" and "crimped" is not the same thing. I use recleaned wheat and it's not labeled as possibly being anything else.
