Time limit..
    #26977063 - 10/09/20 01:16 PM (3 years, 3 months ago)

So our sun has been alive and kicking for about 5.4 billion years and still has another 5 billionish years to go, or so they say...

Now, let's jump forward a bit. It's year 4,999,999,980 and we somehow pulled through and allowed for humanity to survive. There's 20 years left until the sun finally says fuck it.

I had a point to all this but I got distracted and started reading different articles.

That would be some shit though.. I guess the sun would lose its heat and turn into a red dwarf which means we will have froze long before the sun was done, but still..

Who knows, maybe Musk will find away to travel at the speed of light and will move people by the 1000s to a new super habitable planets. I hope I'm still alive so I could at least watch it happen.

Remember that old show Earth 2? That was a pretty dope show.

Theres also the problem of the big rip or heat death, because eventually, the universe will no longer be able to sustain its existence, and all atoms are ripped apart

I would hope that there is not a reincarnation of myself or anyone I know to have to go through that. It seems interesting that we pursue such great technological feats, even though all of it will be destroyed when the universe ends (I forget how many billions/trillions of years). One thing is for certain--we cannot survive the death of the universe, as we ourselves are part of the universe. No portals would be possible. Way too much energy required.

Who says we will still have one star by that time? By then all the metals and organic substances in the earth will be depleted by then.

Jesus, can't say I'm feeling you there brother!!

Given the way I see the world changing around me, the sixty or so years I'll likely spend in this place is more then enough for me!

I just wanna get in, have my fun, learn my lessons, treat my loved ones well, and GTFO.

Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. It will only destroy what you are not.

If Humanity doesnt war with itself on a Global scale and if we dont destroy/containment the natural resources of Planet Earth, Humans have plenty of time to develop Interstellar Space-Travel Technologies.

NASA is already experimenting with some pretty advanced conceptual engines for space travel like this conceptual engine: Article on Helical Engine

The Secret to Space Travel is harnessing Zero-Point Energy:

i think this situation has been premeditated, at least the sun collapsing scenario.

i imagine the plan, baring there is not some other technological leap that enables a better alternative, is something akin to:  construct a vessel like a giant space station or death star that can orbit other planets and will serve as a base while essential resources are farmed from the surface of uninhabitable planets and further synthesized for consumption.

i mean, that's kind of an adolescent stab in the general direction of what actual NASA scientists have already dreamed up, but i'd bet $50 they have already reduced that plan down to preliminary steps and started moving in that direction.

alledgedly there are van allen belts and layers of radioactive fire around the outer orbit of earth and the solar system, which could pose a big problem with human leaving...  you know, without a lot of armor or something.

anyway, yeah i don't know where this is going either.

did someone figure out how to fix the aether yet?  are the trees still flipping the bird, does anyone know?  honestly, i haven't checked in a while.

Long before our sun burns out it will expand and gobble our planet up, we've got about another 2 billion years to sort out shit out get space hopping. Of course that's not going to happen, we're all going to die here.

If I could time travel forwards I'd love to jump to the height of the next epoch, see what all the genetic material on this planet moulds itself into after humans are long gone. I find it fascinating that even though we are unnaturally, as a species, speeding up our current cycle that in the big picture it doesn't really matter. We will be a water world again, then all will freeze, then it will melt... and something will crawl out of the water and spring from the soil left by the receding ice.

5 billion years is a long time, so many things could end life on earth before the sun is ever a problem, and even if earth life survives all of that, we wouldn't be human anymore (earth life hasn't even been around 5 billion years, so its pretty hard to conceive of a distinct species somehow staying around for such a long time without becoming something else entirely). And then taking into account all the cultural and scientific changes likely to occur well before then (and necessary to survive potential extinction events) I don't think we can really imagine beings at all like ourselves in that late stage.

Whatever our ancestors are, by that point they would be more alien to us than we are to the dinosaurs

We've only got like a billion years or so before the planet is uninhabitable due to the increased luminosity of the sun. But even by a billion years from now, humanity will be so radically advanced that we might not even live in this dimension anymore, or maybe we'll have abandoned our bodies and uploaded our minds into computers, or maybe we'll have colonized every star in the galaxy by that time.

Keep in mind, the entirety of human history is only about 20,000 years long. That's from before the invention of farming, when we lived in small migratory groups following herds of wild animals with no written language, to space flight and computers. In less than 20,000 years.

You're talking about 1,000,000,000 years (from our current level of advancement), minimum. Hell, with that amount of time, maybe we'll find a way to regulate the evolution of the sun to keep it going for billions of years more without destroying the earth. Or maybe we'll find a way to move the earth. It's an almost inconceivable amount of time.

Also you will most definitely not still be alive.

All these replies excite me like no other. The possibilities and advances are endless. Just to think, in 20,000 years we went from small cow chasing groups to playstation 5. 20k years... I can't even accurately imagine what life will be like in a 100 years from now, let alone a billion.

Well... Actually... The way things are going, the movie Idocracy seems very real.

I plan to transfer my consciousness to an ear of corn and live until the end of days, hopefully surviving to witness all the great accomplishments of man and insect alike.

I dunno man... It's halloween and roasted corn can be pretty popular. Imagine... Your conscience was transferred to a corn on the cob. You are then thrown on a flaming hot grill for several minutes and then pulled off just to have salt poured into all your open wounds..

Don't worry though, the butter will help sooth the burns.

And just when you think the horror is over, an over sized 10 year old with cheeto stains and stale milk on all over his face picks you up and crunches out a gigantic piece coming from either your stomach or penis area.

(I know you said conscience, but that's no fun so your conscience now has muscle, nerves, and a penis)
