Exciting times! * 1

https://thenextweb.com/syndication/2020/10/08/3-more-lakes-have-been-found-on-mars-anyone-home/amp/

They recently discovered 3 more smaller bodies of water about a mile under Mars' surface. It's all speculation at this point, but these lakes could be billions of years old.

Imagine being the first to fish that bad boy.. ancient monster fish?

In no way, shape, or form am I a science boy, but it does interest me like no other. Was mars like earth at some point! Was life sent to earth in hopes of a last effort to save life, sort of thing?

Anyway. It's cool and I hope I'm alive to witness any major discoveries.

I wonder whether the bodies of water are concentrated calcium perchlorate solutions.

That's 0.5-1% of Mars' soil.

Interestingly, its an oxidizer, just like oxygen in our atmosphere is an oxidizer.

It could potentally enable some extremophile micro organism to thrive.

If you have an oxidizer, no matter how inhospitable to earth life, you have a source of energy, replenished by the sun's radiation on the surface.
There has to be some potential for chemistry to happen in which life can take part.

You oxidize food with oxygen to energy and waste.

Some martian microbe might do the same with perchlorate ion as the oxidizer.

All you need is one organism that lets say catalyticaklly decomposes perchlorate to chloride and oxygen and suddenly your bodies of water are oxygenated.

Evolution in the making... Maybe Mars isn't a dead planet, maybe it's in the process of being born. A second earth.

Very cool news. According to UFOlogy stories, Mars was like Earth millions of years ago but an intergalactic Alien war destroyed life on the planet. I believe some life in the underground lakes must have survived, at least some extremophiles. Only time will tell what really happened on Mars.....
