Growing points of Ariocarpus?
    #26976630 - 10/09/20 08:29 AM (3 years, 3 months ago)

So talking about a fissuratus, retusus idk - an average Ariocarpus if there is such a thing...

Where are the growing points? What is the anatomy like?

My real question is: if your plants main central growing point gets damaged and disabled... where can or will it grow then? with areoles normally i understand, and i get apical dominance and stuff...
Just, i'm not sure in this case where any of it is?

thanks

Not my picture but I think they pup much like Haworthias do. Any growth points / material would be near the center of the plant between all the leaves and hidden with fluff.

Thanks for your answer

I will have to look into haworthia images and try to compare with Ario to see if i can possibly make any of that out. So can I expect each 'petal' (which each is a tubercle??) to have something like an areole near its "root"?

Is there even 1 main central meristem that is rolling all of those out like a warped conveyorbelt, or are there many of them all a little eccentric, and one tubercle-petal allows the next one to grow from it basically like a sideshoot at the basis, which then in turn can do the same, etc?

I don't quite understand yet how these can best be propagated - like how you can predict what will happen and therefore control and steer it by limiting options etc just as pruning is a form of that.

Hopefully there is a drawing around somewhere that explains it lol xD

I doubt it will grow from a leaf, it will probably pup naturally with age.

I also doubt it will grow from a 'leaf' but it will pup from one if you graft it... its been quite a while since I've grown/researched/grafted but I do remember seeing people graft it with success
